Ann Widdecombe was a formidable opponent on many issues (though not all) when I was in the Commons but on a personal level she took a genuine interest in colleagues of all parties. Even on the Labour benches many of us would have described her as a friend. A cruel, unnecessary, untimely loss
So sad to hear that Chris Breiseth has died in New York at 89. I wrote a biography of Frances Perkins (1880-1965), 1st female Cabinet member in USA (1932-45), and Chris was my last living link to her. His passion for her and all her good causes was tangible and quite wonderful
