Things going on in and around the Kingman Park neighborhood of Washington D.C.
US DOT is proposing a federal rule change to give more transit money to places with higher marriage & birth rates www.federalregister.gov/documents/20... Such a rule would direct money to places with more driving, more homeowners, more white people, & wealthier people www.urban.org/urban-wire/d...
Lol. Well, 75% of North American bird species are in decline, so you really can’t go wrong appreciating any and all birds atm 🦉
Hate it when you see what you think is a cool bird and you look it up later and it’s called like the Common Dumb Asshole. “Birders throughout history have hated its guts. It can’t even fly right.” I thought I saw an interesting guy.
Let books be. Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, an annual observation started more than 40 years ago in response to a sudden surge in attempts to censor or remove books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. Sound familiar? Find ways to get involved and spread the word: https://bit.ly/4yvixbB.

The new Commanders Stadium would have "the largest parking garage ever built in DC history, with 3,600 parking spaces at nine stories high.” Residents are rightly outraged for what is way, way too much parking for a dense urban neighborhood. 3,600 spots is not "transit first." #washingtondc

There have been recent changes at and around the new RFK Stadium Site. Due to ongoing construction, a temporary U-turn lane has been installed, connecting WB traffic from C St directly to Independence Ave SE. Be aware of traffic signal adjustments, as more closures are planned.
“It’s inexcusable that Mayor Bowser and the DC Council didn’t work with WMATA to address transit access to RFK before jamming through a heinous deal.” AGREED!
The new Commanders stadium needs to be served by hardcore bus prioritization and world-class walkability and bikeability if DC wants a chance at avoiding a traffic nightmare every Sunday.
One of America’s great wildlife recoveries is coming undone. Across the Chesapeake this year, Bryan Watts and his colleagues at William & Mary’s Center for Conservation Biology recorded the worst osprey breeding season they have ever documented.
Ospreys are disappearing along the East Coast. Scientists think they know why.
At the center of a widening crisis for one of the nation's great wildlife comebacks is a fish most Americans would hardly recognize.

When the ambition to destroy culture is bottomless, the anger must be even deeper, culture critic Philip Kennicott writes. When there is new governance in Washington, the Kennedy Center must be among the things investigated, because it was always the bellwether. Read more: https://wapo.st/4y85I6T

The Commanders’ parking designs came out last week (www.ncpc.gov/files/projec...). Looks cheap and depressing. They’ll be presenting this at the NCPC meeting in October. Please write the NCPC and/or sign up to testify (www.ncpc.gov/participate/...).
