A 15-story garage "would make the parking deck taller than the main terminal... likely block most views of the historic terminal." The rail platform is where it is precisely because under federal law (Section 4f) it couldn't block the "historic" parking lot view.

One part of Trump's $22 billion makeover of Dulles that's been missed is his big, beautiful, world-record 32,000-spot parking garage. That's *way* more parking than recent estimates show the airport needs, and it would tower over the historic terminal: www.notus.org/metro/dulles...

I also second @bgoldst.bsky.social's comment here: “The best airports have specificity and speak to you of the place where you are. The DC region has a lot of personality and placeness but the renderings have ignored those aspects." Saarinen's elements have a VIBE that shouldn't be tossed aside.

United's plan for Dulles airport is a go. And, no, I'm not focused on the AI slop-esque renderings — “These aren’t real designs," @jgbollard.bsky.social told me — but the green light to transform Dulles into another Atlanta with better architecture.

All eyes on WestJet as it prepares for flight attendants to potentially strike at 12:01am tonight. The Calgary-based carrier has cancelled a quarter of its flights today in preparation.

Breaking news: Federal prosecutors moved to drop a criminal charge filed against a former Olympian who had been accused of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool, suggesting that the damage was instead due to a rushed installation.

Prosecutors drop Reflecting Pool damage charge against former Olympian

Trump has claimed vandals deliberated damaged the pool, but prosecutors say internal documents show it was likely contractor error.
