Semi-binging Doctor Who season 21 on Blu-ray. When they go to the expense of remastering from 16mm location film, we get a glimpse of how good it could have looked if the "technical" people at the BBC hadn't insisted on studio scenes being shot on video. Monty Python did a whole sketch about it.

For the last few decades, through agile and lean schools of thought, systems theory has been a dominant model in software dev thinking - how do we optimise for "flow" I now think a more useful model lies in information theory - how do we optimise for *learning*? Not really the same things.

My column on how capital becomes a death cult. Faced with a choice between profit and human life, the radical right chooses profit. Then it tries to persuade us that mass death is what we want. It's the new phase of climate denial: accept your fate, earthlings. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Murderous heat, an endangered food supply, decimated landscapes: embrace the Mediterranean life | George Monbiot

As climate disaster stares us in the face, the radical right says ‘Embrace the Mediterranean life’. Embrace death, more like it, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

"But with AI, some of the skills of technical management are becoming part of the job: defining the problem, decomposing work, providing context, reviewing output, spotting unintended consequences and maintaining a coherent architecture." You misspelled "micromanagement"

Analysts estimate that 70%+ of Microsoft, Google and Amazon's present and future AI revenues are from Anthropic and OpenAI's compute spend and model sales. Outside of two unsustainable AI labs, demand barely exists, and they've massively overbuilt capacity. www.wheresyoured.at/the-ai-deman...

The Massachusetts 6th District deserves representation that represents us. The Democratic Establishment is ashamed of progressive districts like ours. That’s why it got behind a centrist from the richest seat in the district. In Congress, I will be as progressive as we are.
