🔬🌱 SPECIAL ISSUE EXPERT VIEW 🌱🔬 Auroux et al. synthesize recent breakthroughs in seed biology enabled by cutting-edge omics technologies, revealing molecular mechanisms controlling seed development, dormancy, and germination, with implications for developing climate-resilient crops.

The figure illustrates the multi-level molecular approaches employed in seed biology studies, from genome organization to metabolic output. Epigenomics approaches detect transcription factor (TF) binding and chromatin modifications including methylation (Me), acetylation (Ac), and phosphorylation (P), using High-throughput Chromosome Conformation Capture (Hi-C) to map three-dimensional genome architecture, Assay for Transposase-Accessible Chromatin using sequencing (ATAC-seq) at the bulk and single-nucleus resolution (single-nucleus ATAC-seq, snATAC-seq) to profile chromatin accessibility, and Chromatin Immunoprecipitation sequencing/Cleavage Under Targets and Tagmentation (ChIP-seq/CUT&Tag) for mapping protein-DNA interactions and histone modifications.
