Even the Telegraph cannot deny reality any longer. Only last year, Telegraph columnists like Allison Pearson were still doing their ‘just like 1976’ denial. But while denial is out, I fear fatalism is in. Even this column ends with a plea for a rain dance rather than net zero.

I join you from the Blaenavon wildfire in Southeast Wales, brought to you by BP, Shell and Equinor. Though it does not look dramatic, the fire has been out of control for days - for a very particular reason. 🧵

One thing Nolan’s Odyssey shows so sadly & effectively is that the ancient Greeks had far more subtle and complex ideas of masculinity and heroism than mainstream 21st century culture can comprehend.

Great to see Livia Giuggioli (@liviafirth) talking about Feminism for a World on Fire on instagram today. More and more women are making connections between feminism and environmentalism now. The challenges are so massive but this shift in awareness is exciting. Thanks Livia!

Court of Appeal judges here demonstrate complete ignorance of the reality of the suffrage movement. Far from operating transparently the militant suffragettes covertly ran destructive arson and bombing campaigns that harmed both property and people. Learn some history before quoting it fgs.

Yet another example of a polling agency actively participating in spreading an actual, serious and consequential lie to the public. Fossil fuels are more expensive. Clean energy is cheaper. @yougov.co.uk is very literally lying in this poll, and there should be actual consequences for this

Just remembering today to register the new book, Feminism for a World on Fire, for the Public Lending Rights scheme. Please do order this book at your local library if you want to get reading but are finding the price rather steep. Libraries are brilliant, we should all be using them!

BREAKING A NEW report that examines the rise of Political Prisoners in Britain has now been published in full. “It is a wake up call to the authorities to change course and pursue a more proportionate response.” 🧵 for details

As heat rises, threats to women rise. Feminism can’t just seek women’s success in a system that’s destroying the planet. Environmentalism without feminism is the patriarchy in a forest. Feminism without environmentalism is a women’s centre on a dead planet. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

‘Heat, floods and droughts make men more violent to women’: Natasha Walter on eco-feminism in a world on fire

The author has become acutely aware of how the climate crisis is affecting women – and, in her new book, she argues that it’s time for mainstream western feminists to join the dots
