It’s really weird how so many of the people against bike lines on Hopkins use “cyclist” as a slur.

These pro parking on Hopkins comments are a good reminder that architects are not urban designers nor city planners.

Love “acid cyclists” who peddle fear mongering of micromobility modes like it’s a zero sum game. Scooters are a bigger problem than cars.

Drivers complaining about cyclists breaking laws on Hopkins without considering how many drivers break the law on that street everyday. 🤔

This is framed as a feel-good story, but it should scare the wits out of anybody on the road. Tesla's deceptive marketing is convincing seniors that the cars drive themselves. In reality, a human must always be ready to intervene. If someone lacks the ability to do that, they shouldn't be driving!

I’m very grump about watching a Berkeley city council meeting on Zoom from a minor league baseball game because didn’t the city already make the decision? How much safer would our streets be if we actually followed the recommendations we paid for?

FYI - The Burger King on Jaye in Porterville is really good.

Somebody pointed out the precedent a O’Keefe’s proposal will likely set: NIMBYs and other conservative strains could kill projects to improve public safety and fulfill the city’s goals of they just complain and stall long enough. Any decision the city of Berkeley makes only counts they like it.

To be clear - tomorrow the Berkeley City Council is revisiting Hopkins bike lanes again. The city has spent lots of money and time to make Hopkins safe for all, and it keeps stalling due to people in North Berkeley wanting to keep parking over the safety of anybody outside of a car.

I just read an apparently serious claim that the Hopkins bike/walk/bus project will “gentrify” that North Berkeley neighborhood. Said neighborhood was developed on a history of racial exclusion, the effects of which are still apparent today.

Hi, this is Holden emerging from my Bluesky hiatus to tell everyone that when checking the links in the piece, I used ChatGPT as my search engine (does anyone use Google anymore?). The piece was written by me and edited by humans. So all the links were checked by me and again by our copyeditors.

One thing that really bugs me about UC Berkeley is that it's too easy to drive on campus, and that most of the drivers on campus drive like they think they're on normal roads - not a heavily pedestrian (and micromobility rider) park. This is really obvious with all the summer camps and tours.
