Democratic legitimacy and multi-stakeholder platform design in sustainability governance
Deliberative sustainability governance often struggles to deliver effective policy outcomes with high output legitimacy, while technocratic governance often lacks democratic input legitimacy. This perspective develops a framework showing how well-designed multi-stakeholder platforms can generate synergies between input and output legitimacy, illustrating this through Germany’s Commission on the Future of Agriculture.
