Yesterday was the 56-year anniversary of when the NOPD rolled into the Desire Projects of New Orleans with a tank & guns & had a stand-off with the NOLA Black Panthers, which I detail in the story linked in OP. It all started after the mayor had two Black police officers infiltrate the Panthers.
four years later and I still think this is the best nonfiction piece I've ever written. I talked about the racial climate in America (largely New Orleans) that led to a Black vet going to war against the NOPD. Research required: 6 books, a plethora of 60s and 70s reporting, and a documentary.
