How do you build a deep understanding of and attachment to your characters and story without doing all this yourself??

I left TT a year+ ago and it helped quiet the noise. Definitely.
I was there for, like, two days. It felt like being trapped inside an infomercial where everyone was on speed or meth. Hard pass.
no. no they do not. they may think the AI is creating vivid characters, but that is because they have poor reading comprehension. They wouldn't know a compelling character if it bit them on the nose.

There's a lot of discussion in code circles right now about cognitive debt - the idea that something goes wrong on prod and nobody knows how to fix it because nobody has a real mental model of how everything fits together. It's almost like doing the deep thinking and the grunt work is important 👀

I do think part of this is writers feeling pressured to find a middle ground or concede anything. But the fact is AI has no place at any stage of the writing process. It's not useful, it won't help, it won't make you better.

Like it’s really ok to admit you don’t actually want to be a writer, folks! It’s ok to have other hobbies and dreams
This is what writing *is.* What the reader experiences in just the output of all this backend structure that authors create. If your characters are randomly generated by an algorithm and not a product of your thinking, then you’re not actually writing.

I've created a whole separate Instagram account for my book connections, and I realized (after reading your comment) that all the accounts I follow, with very few exceptions, are people over 30. Ain't got no time for infants telling us what we should read based on their very limited life experience.
Also...imo those are all the most fun parts!

OH MY GOD. get me drunk and talk to me. I can do half of that in a far more entertaining fashion, and I don't store all your info on the 'cloud'.
AAAAND it all beats around in your head, filling out characters and scenes maybe catching faults in character logic you missed when writing, or a hundred other things. All the dumb little bastards in the shitty writing I do live in my head, for better or worse. If AI is in there, they aren't MINE.

The anti-AIPAC discourse is bad bc ignores the huge # of Christian Zionists to focus on a minority population. And to tie into your post, that group tends to also be huge supporters of groups like Americans for Prosperity. (And generally, all groups support pols that are already sympathetic)
Americans for Prosperity is why parts of the country don't have public transit and are shifting to charter schools, so I'd put them above AIPAC.
