The deterioration of young adult mortality in Canada / US is real (pink line 2010-2019) and likely largely due to opioids. What surprises me is that this doesn't seem to be replicated elsewhere in the world.

This is a super-interesting figure from @drjenndowd.bsky.social's new paper doi.org/10.1111/padr... on life expectancy changes over the past 2 decades. Bars show age-specific changes in mortality rates 2000-2009 and lines show the same for 2010-19. The US data is horrible.
