Former Austrian Diplomat, among other postings Ambassador to Cyprus, Israel and the USA. Now President & CEO of Salzburg Global - check us out, you'll like us 😊
An unflinching assessment of US global influence 5 months into the Iran conflict: - an unpredictable U.S. foreign policy - no one wants to be subject to a whipsaw foreign policy that doesn’t know its limits - neither the military prowess nor the diplomatic promises of the US can be trusted. Ouch!

Doesn't happen all that often 🙂, but here's a point I agree with President Trump 100%. Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C. is truly one of the "worst airports anywhere in the world". Any plan to overhaul it can't come fast enough!
Trump unveils Dulles airport overhaul: ‘We're going to make it maybe the best.’
If nothing else, this is a huge disservice to the US-team. They played a strong tournament and are deservedly in the round of 16. Now they won't be remembered for the way they played, but for the unfair advantage they received. What a way to spoil a great World Championship... #RedCardSuspension
The latest edition of our Salzburg Global Podcast "Conversation Changers" is out. This time I'm talking with @alivaez.bsky.social, the director of the #Iran project and senior advisor of the @crisisgroup.org about - surprise, surprise 😀 - what's going on with Iran 👇 youtube.com/shorts/NYpxz...

A moment that will go down in Austrian football history. Just when all hope was lost and seconds before the final whistle, Sasa Kalajdzic scores the goal that keeps us in the tournament & the Austrian hopes alive. A Hollywood thriller with a happy end!!
How it started (=regime change) and how it ends. Despite a clear military defeat - the regime is still standing - there's still (a) Khamenei in charge - money will flow into it's coffers - Lebanon is part of the deal Not bad for a country that is "completely defeated" (© Donald Trump)
"The Iran War was a disaster of historic proportions.....the Iranian regime remains in power, effectively controls access to the Strait of Hormuz, and retains its nuclear ambitions, know-how, and capabilities. The pending deal changes none of that." A scorching reckoning by @ivodaalder.bsky.social
Love this quote one of our participants just threw out: "In absolute governments the King is law. So in free countries the law ought to be king. And there ought to be no other" 250 years old, © Thomas Paine, but still relevant as hell!
Our current program @salzburgglobal.bsky.social. Sound relevant? We have amazing participants - former Supreme Court Justices, Legal Advisors of Ministries, senior and aspiring lawyers etc. - weighing in on these crucial questions. Bottom line: the rule of law is, alas, under serious attack.
It was a pleasure! Super Publikum mit super Fragen - if this is our future, I'm in 😊
Danke fürs Mitmachen 🙏 @magratheantimes.bsky.social @weissmartin.bsky.social
"You're either crooked or stupid" ist schon eine brutale Ansage gegenüber einer Journalistin, die nichts anderes als ihren Job macht und kritisch nachfragt.......👇
„I travelled all the way to Wisconsin“ ist vielleicht nicht das allerbeste Argument, aber wie kommt die Journalistin eig. dazu, sich und ihre Kolleg·innen minutenlang als „korrupt“ beschimpfen, sich „Darling“ zu nennen und zum Schluss auch noch antatschen zu lassen?
President Trump on the duration of the Iran war: "You know, Vietnam lasted 19 years – I'm into my third month." (© @nbcnews.com ). Not sure how reassuring this statement is....
"A ceasefire that doesn't cease" - gotta love that wording 😊👍 (the substance ain't bad either 😎)

Maybe it's time to move from 'strong condemnation' to taking action? How about those Taurus missiles that Ukraine has been asking for since 2023?
The war vs. Iran has not yet ended. The markets though still seem to be rather undisturbed. The worst, however, might still be to come.... 👇 "Fatih Birol, executive director of the IEA, has warned that we are entering the biggest energy crisis in history" giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/...

If I were #Taiwan, that's the moment where I would get veeery anxious....
Trump: "When you look at the odds, China is very, very powerful, big country. Taiwan is a very small island. Think of it, it's 59 miles away. We're 9500 miles away. That's a little bit of a difficult problem."
A harsh assessment of what the developments in the Gulf mean for the USA & beyond by US-columnist Robert Kagan: "The global adjustment to a post-American world is accelerating. America’s once-dominant position in the Gulf is just the first of many casualties." www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

Pleasure to welcome @staceyabrams.com back to @salzburgglobal.bsky.social for our program on "How can Democracies Defend Themselves?". A topic that may have seemed superfluous only a few years back is highly relevant today. Whish it weren't, but it is.
„Man kann sich ja kaum auf den Ton von Donald Trump einlassen, denn das ist dann wie beim Limbo tanzen 'how low can you go'. Das wird ja für niemanden besser. (...) In der Sache muss (Europa) dann schon manchmal Kante zeigen“, sagt @weissmartin.bsky.social in #zurSACHE.
