there is little that is more alienating as a sports fan than to have a bunch of people in sports (fans, media, other players, brands, etc) cheer on a dude credibly reported for rape

From @jessicawluther.com our magazine: Once the majority has decided a marginalized group is the demon in one part of a story, it’s easier to paint them as demons in another. To counter this, we need to look at gender-expansive athletes in a detailed and holistic way.
Sometimes running a nonprofit is fun and cool and you’re getting nominated for awards and sometimes it’s hard and horrible and you’re sitting in the middle of your storage unit rolling 100 lb whiskey barrels and crying bc it’s just too much.
Re: Wes’s post about @bradstuver.com: I first became Team Brad Stuver years ago when an anti-trans sports bill was in front of the TX lege and he wrote an op-ed for the local paper advocating for trans inclusion in sport. That’s when we asked him onto BIAD: www.burnitalldownpod.com/episodes/int...

Former athletes: do you ever wake up crying from a dream where you were moving in your sport exactly like you used to? Asking for a friend
Good morning! I have a new piece about the 1986 Texas women’s basketball team, which 40 years ago became the first women’s bball team to go undefeated and win the championship. How hard it was to do and how great this team was that did it. www.texasmonthly.com/arts-enterta...

Truly astounding to me to have 4 of the same Shakespeare play running within 6 months of each other in the same city. Y’all know there are 36* other options right? And that if you just talked to each other this could be avoided????? *ish
Watching Mike White cry about how overwhelming White Lotus can feel, on a night where I’ve been crying about how overwhelming producing our own show is, is making me feel so understood by a man three thousand leagues above me lol
Y’all @flavorflav.bsky.social is about to start season 4 of Flavor of Love but it’s all the American women athletes from the Olympics and it’s not a dating show it’s just a chance for them to hang out in a house and celebrate each other. Flavor Flav supporting women supporting women. 🥰
One of the best things about this Olys is seeing the age of skaters rising. When my coaches told me to quit at 17 I listened bc I assumed they were right - I was past any chance of ‘prime’ and would never find success. They were so wrong for that, I just had no idea there was another option.
Also I keep getting served reels on ig and fb of adults who have started skating in their 30s+ sharing their progress. It is the most delightful content imaginable. To see people falling in love with this sport on their own terms with whatever body they’ve got? Unbelievably inspiring to me
Look at what can happen when we prioritize joy. When we do things for ourselves. I keep crying thinking about Alysa. I hope this sport never goes back to what it used to be. It feels like she won it for everyone who has ever quit because their body wasn’t theirs anymore, who had lost the joy.
What’s the fucking point of this judging system if judges refuse to use it right Alysa’s 2A should’ve been +4 g GoE minimum 😤😤
“I wish pairs was more fun like dance” @futurexskeleton.bsky.social I swear I’m gonna marry this man again.
Tara said one of the pair teams was skating 8mph and that most average 15. I thought that was SO SLOW so @futurexskeleton.bsky.social told me to dl Strava and track my warmup on the ice this afternoon as not-an-Olympian 😅
Ioulia Chtchetnina is doing this Olympics so right - she and her partner are at the bottom of the pack but their pure joy and delight shows they understand that just being there is the win. I yearn for that joy in every skater.
Honestly the fact that Tara and Johnny compliment the artistry of any pair team with a straight face makes me feel like they should’ve been better on The Traitors
Watching Deanna compete at the Olympics at 42 is literally the only thing I have needed all life. See yall back on the ice lol I’ll *only* be 43 at Paris 2030 soooooooo let’s do this shit
Say what you want but watching Ilia go straight to Misha to congratulate him tells me everything I need to know that he is a good kid.
What an honor to be able to talk skating on this incredible show. It’s an exciting and an important time to really pay attention to what’s happening in this sport. Thank you Jessica for letting me yell a bunch 😅
I'm watching figure skating. You're watching it. We're all watching it!! And at BIAD, we are talking about it, too. Former skater and judge, @crugglez.bsky.social, joins @jessicawluther.com to talk through what we've seen so far. And LOTS about ice dance. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H1e...
Everyone yelling about ‘they were robbed’ is right except only if you were talking about Piper and Paul of the silver medal 🤷🏻♀️
Anyway, any 40 year old former skaters wanna slip back into ice dance w/me lol
Scott Hamilton “now there are actual athletic things” <in ice dance since the new system was implemented> Freestyle skaters will never respect this discipline my fucking GOD. They’d never be able to do half the shit dancers can do with edges but I guess go off on how it’s just pretty 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
