Indeed. I know someone who cannot recognize someone by appearance. She has severe apperceptive prosopagnosia. I've seen her mistake a child for an adult she knows. She cannot recognize herself. She uses cues like clothing. She'll never know what it's like to recognize a familiar face in a crowd.
