Okay now I'm (nel) tired of waiting for them to make their way through the nixos pipeline. Tranquil is officially in nixpkgs now! with a package for the backend and frontend and a module all based on the in-repo versions. v0.6.4 should hit nixos-unstable soon and v0.6.5 shouldnt be long after that

Hiya Tranquil PDS hosters! Small breaking change on email config for 0.6.0. We no longer shell out to sendmail, we have the email config inline. It will hopefully be straightforward to move whatever sendmail config you had to tangled.org/tranquil.far....

In the latest update of Tranquil the server is writing records very noticeably slower than usual. This bug will be fixed within the week. Even this post is taking 10 seconds to succeed :P

We have seen a few people mention that they want to use tranquil but are waiting for a nixos module or for a nix package. So just to mention somewhere more visible: We have one!! an official one! of both of those. It's all in the tranquil repo, officially sanctioned! available as a flake.

Right now Tranquil idles at 20MB-60MB of RAM which we think is a little shameful. We gotta pump those numbers down

pushed a tiny fix for tranquil pds on debug.hose.cam the debugger now shows `version` from the pds `describeServer` if present, falling back on the `_health` endpoint (for bsky pds impl) and no longer failing if the response at _health is not a JSON object

This account’s did:web is hosted by the PDS itself. This is an optional feature of Tranquil PDS! Even if a PDS-hosted did:web user decides to migrate off this instance, a minimal did-doc will be served and available to edit no matter where the user goes. Pros and cons in replies…

We aim to be fully production-ready around March. Until then, no guarantee of stability. This serves as a warning to anyone using Tranquil PDS before we announce that it’s stable! There is a risk of total account bork. …at the same time we would love testers to find more bugs and quirks :P

just saying this out loud: we are not a company, we don’t want to make money, we’re not going to create some “hosted SaaS version” of tranquil that we try to force down your throat. we are just a bunch of nerds doing this for fun. this thing will always be open and free and transparent! :3

This account itself highlights one of the benefits of tranquil: it is "delegated". It's a shared organization account and doesn't need any password of its own. Lewis and Nel able to "act as" this account through OAuth, and we can continue to add whoever else we want to control it.
