Worked on live professional poker last night. Absolute dogshit television, though among the parade of baseball caps and shades to hide tells I appreciate this one player dressing as Doflamingo from One Piece as his personal intimidation tactic.

The official subtitles for Ouran High School Host Club are so 2006 that CR has to include a Slur warning.
I was skimming through Welcome to the NHK to find the scene where they talk about creating the ultimate moe heroine for their game, and was amused to note that there's a Strike Witches poster in the background through the entire scene. This episode aired about 6 months before the SW OVA released.
Apparently someone on this Scooby Doo show also really liked Jin Roh.
I've been casually watching Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated and I sure did a double-take at this episode title...
For anyone wondering why the translation of Kamaitachi no Yoru is such a big deal, I'd highly recommend giving my video about Chunsoft's sound novel series a watch. It's a bit long, but it goes into the long history behind why these games were so influential in Japan. www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9BT...
It's funny because this sounds hyperbolic but it's probably actually an understatement.
Kamaitachi no Yoru is simply one of the most important Japanese games in history, period. In the historical trajectory of novel games, if Otogirisou, Chunsoft's previous gane, is Pac-Land, this is Super Mario Brothers. It is that foundational in the storytelling and design paradigms it codified.
They Hyacinth Bucket this into "Breest" in the English dub, but in the original Japanese is pronounced exactly how you probably think it should be.
If people want anime to go back to having 26-50 episodes then they probably have to be OK with something like Goodbye Lara not existing, because it's hard enough for original anime to get into production these days, and that's probably not the stuff that's going to survive an industry crunch.
HELL ON A CEL: BEST ANIME FIGHT SCENES returns to @kitacon.bsky.social in less than two weeks! My crack team of spies, assassins and kung-fu dinosaurs shall ensure the mission is completed with the utmost discretion.
I've been watching some Ghost Hunt, which as a show is this weird interesting confluence of mid-00s girls anime, a trashy paranormal investigation TV show, and a procedural. But also this dub is maybe an actual hate crime against the country of Australia.
Caught a screening of Destroy All Monsters. Does cinema get any more perfect than Minilla, stood atop a felled King Ghidorah, arms thrust to the heavens in victory? I think not.
Apparently, yes, that was a Solo Levellijg poster.
… Was that a Solo Levelling poster in Spider-Man?
There’s a refreshing lack of subtlety in your girls band anime when your antagonist is cackling to herself right infront of the heroine as her latest scheme unfolds and then starts posing like she’s Dio the minute she’s alone.
In the process of cutting down my 2006 anime notes down to the 25-ish I'd realistically have time to talk about in a panel context and laughing at my cutlist full of highprofile things like All The Shonen Jump Anime.
This photograph of Maruyama looking like everyones nice anime grandpa at the start of the Tokyo Tribes 2 OP is extremely funny given, well, everything else about Tokyo Tribes 2.
Finished my rewatch of Kujibiki Unbalance TV last night, and one of my main retrospective takeaways is that it's hilarious how much people complained about the character designs not matching the OVAs back when it was announced, as aesthetically the show holds up way better than a lot of '06 stuff.
There's also a huge line of 'Super Horse' plush toys, which are plushes of not just horses, but winning horses from previous races. Also they sometimes play soccer.
The actual sobering thought about Bungo Stray Dogs is that it’s now as old as Igarashis big break from Toei with Ouran High School Host Club was when the first season aired. I *like* BSD but it’d sure be nice to see Igarashi tackle something else again…
A damn shame. Honor Among Thieves was great, and I'd love to see a resurgence of features like the post-Conan sword and sorcery wave bsky.app/profile/ign....
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves co-director Jonathan Goldstein says the script for a sequel already exists, but he's not expecting it to see the light of day any time soon. https://bit.ly/4bIsrNA #SDCC
There’s an article on th UK Guardian culture page today about the weird uptick in UK sales of Osamu Dazai novels and of course the punchline is that it’s all Bungou Stray Dogs fault.
Oh, It appears that they just announced another round of Blue Archive swimsuit alts, so prepare for all your artfeeds to be clogged with those for a while I guess.
Oh right, I should fire up Honks and blow all my savings trying to pull Rin.

Wait, I’ve not been online much today - the Kamiyama Gundam rumour was actually true? Oh boy - I kinda liked his LOTR movie but I don’t know about this…
