Me and Emily both went through the truly dire Chiaki Konaka-penned GR: Giant Robo as a part of our homework for this one. It's mostly just especially dull and rather poorly assembled, but we refer to the two standout moments from the 12th episode on this BFF and feel they're worth worth sharing.
A BIG FIRE CELEBRATION! @sundownmcmoon.bsky.social and @spacequeenemily.bsky.social stop by to discuss ep. 5 of Giant Robo! Both Ethan and Emily did a ton of research for the record (Water Margin, Tetsujin 28 [2004], etc), so if you need Yokoyama takes, this is the place! Become a patron to listen!

Since I spent like an hour searching for this photo for some extremely dumb reason I have to share it here. This is a picture of "Hotel Cherry" in my old haunt of Ayase, out in Adachi.
Always impressed by Okamura-chan’s “doing drugs” arc — dude did so much shit and STILL has a pretty successful career.
Jingi Naki Tatakai - Dairi Sensō / Battles Without Honor and Humanity - Proxy War (1973) Directed by: Fukasaku Kinji Written by: Kasahara Kazuo Starring: Sugawara Bunta #AHWatching
More down and dirty yakuza business framed in Fukasaku's dynamic and grizzly style. This one gets hip-deep in the goopy politics, and at times feels complex for the sake of being complex. But turns out this part of the story is also based on real events, so it's to be expected. #AHWatching
Given this is the first of two parts, it's hard to really assess it as it ends before the real action gets started. So on its own it feels a bit anticlimactic, but I'll save final judgement after I watch Police Tactics. #AHWatching
An event will be held in Tokyo on August 22 to celebrate the life of Okamoto Kozo, the member of the Japanese Red Army who recently died and was best known for his part in the Lod Airport attack of 1972. It will include a speech by former JRA leader Shigenobu Fusako. orion530.blog.jp/archives/464...

I have come to the unnerving realisation that Mr. Bean is functionally a "cute girls" show. -Idealised existence of cosy leisure -Concoting bizarre solutions to mundane problems -Emphasis on outsized reactions and slapstick -Beach, fête/festival, Christmas episodes -Fluffy mascot character
Started my journey back into Eva. GOD that first episode is absolute fire. Some of the greatest anime you’ll ever see. Gets better each time I watch it.
