Restaurant row to the north side of the big church 1/2 of the photograph is in shadow and 1/2 in light. The portion of light are 2 to 300-year-old buildings where the restaurants are shaded portion to the left is the backside of the Cathedral.

This is our local tourist board (“VVV”). It’s in the main square across from the big church. It features an ornate double wooden door in brown with yellow side columns flanking it. To each side are deeply set arch shaped windows with ornate wrought iron bars.

539 years ago, on the 24th of July 1487, a Leeuwarden tavernkeeper illegally sold beer from Haarlem. The city had previously banned the sale of foreign beer to protect tax income. The incident led to thousands storming the city hall and the laws being repealed. #otd #history 🗃️
