Today our country failed thousands of families who did everything right – worked hard, played by the rules, and made us stronger. We fought this in court, called on Congress to act, and stood with immigrants every step of the way. This decision is a devastating betrayal of our deepest values.
That is not counter-insurgency, that is anti-insurgent. And it explains a lot of the failure of military efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“he observed one speaker comparing his experience promoting data centers to counter-insurgency tactics the speaker used during military service in Iraq and Afghanistan, such as “going undercover in bars and churches to gauge a community’s potential for resistance to a data center development.”
If investors believe this, they deserve to have their money taken. I will shed no tears for someone who loses everything when the grift is this obvious.

The Russians are really pushing things in Europe. Now would be a great time for the US to credibly reaffirm its commitment to NATO. Alas.
❗️🇩🇪🇺🇦 Update: Footage of drone carrying an improvised explosive device found on the tarmac at Leipzig/Halle Airport, only meters from a Ukrainian Antonov An-124 cargo plane. Authorities safely neutralized it after discovering the detonator was defective, preventing an explosion.
Generative AI psychosis and delusion is a real thing, as is the degradation of analytical skills. This increasingly makes conversations difficult with those who have "converted" to using it. Along with the clickbait-ification of everything and the adoption of predatory logarithms. Stay vigilant.
Not for the first time, my "used" copy of a book has arrived with an uncracked spine and the original purchase receipt tucked a hundred pages or so inside. There's a story here, and I want to know what it is!

Running to CVS to get some bags of candy to refill my front office's communal candy jar is how I inadvertently learned today that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is also responsible for running to CVS to get some bags of candy to refill his front office's commual candy jar. Who knew?
Everybody interested in American politics--which is everybody on social media today, but ESPECIALLY members of microblogging sites--needs to read more Barkun.
There are still people who think Harris lost because of Liz Cheney. The average swing voter in 2024 had no idea who Liz Cheney was nor that she led the J6 committee or what the J6 committee was or that we have a bicameral legislature.
I'm glad to see that in a world of uncertainty there's one thing we can always count on: the oil markets being completely delusional.
"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
It sure looks like the U.S. has spent $100 billion and left 18 Americans dead and 600 injured in order to hand control of the Strait of Hormuz to Iran and do nothing about nuclear proliferation except encourage it.
This is an odd ask, and it's for all the folks in the UK: I want to make British style meat pies, but I am finding it impossible to find the right tin in the US! What size do I need to make a pub style pie, and does anyone know where I can order them from?
Iran's refineries are our hostages. If we shoot them, we have no leverage to prevent the from blasting everyone else's...

I'm sure *this* will settle the markets.
Warsh Considers Reducing Frequency of Fed Policy Meetings (Gift Article)
The Federal Reserve has met at least eight times a year for decades. Reducing the number of meetings would represent the biggest change by Kevin M. Warsh since he became chairman.

Native Americans, enslaved people, Japanese families interned in camps, striking 19th Century coal miners, and generations of Black people living under Jim Crow could not be reached for comment.
"Perhaps there has never been a group of people treated so badly in our Nation's history," the president said today of the insurrectionists who violently stormed the Capitol in an attempt to keep him in power.
My tolerance for leftist folk wisdom masquerading as truth so univerally accepted that those spouting don't need evidence for it is pretty thin--just like my tolerance for rightwing bullshit of the same sort. If you're going to claim something, you'd better be able to muster some proof.
This is a genuine question: who are these "high profile Dems" who "profess to prefer" Republicans? What are their names? What offices do they hold? Show me where they said "rather a Republican than Mamdani" or whatever. Where's the proof?
want to be clear there are absolutely big differences b/t Dems & GOP, don’t ascribe to all-the-same, and that said, it’s awfully telling how many high profile Dems now profess to prefer a Republican in office than a progressive and how that appears to be driven by who is closer to their values
Me: The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping. Altman (angrily): What do you mean, I'm not helping? Me: I mean you're not helping! Why is that, Sam?
I prefer to ask “is Altman human?”
