I’ve just finished watching a lecture on how to notice architectural details. We looked at different buildings in Lviv. It made me return to the videos and photos from my recent visit there. Perhaps it’s time to write another letter.

🇺🇦 Zelensky: Today, National Security and Defense Council held a meeting on the implementation of the specified resilience plans for regions. There are three priorities for getting through the winter now: protection of critical infrastructure, shelters, and increasing anti-ballistic capabilities.

🇬🇧🇺🇦 Zelensky: I was delighted to welcome the UK Defence Secretary, Wes Streeting, to Kyiv for the first time. We discussed how the UK can help Ukraine better protect its cities and communities from such ballistic threats.

🇵🇱🇺🇦 A meeting of the Ukrainian-Polish working group on dignified burials was held, during which Poland submitted a list of places for further work on the territory of Ukraine. Exhumations are currently underway in Ukraine in the villages of Ostrivky and Volya Ostrovetska.

1/ The rolling 🇷🇺 missile attacks on #Kyiv again spur a debate about "killing the archer" and which weapon to use. Here #Taurus for example, but I read the same argument for different 🇺🇸systems too. www.chathamhouse.org/2026/07/ukra... However, things are complicated, so a 🧵

Ukraine needs help against Russian missiles now. What more can allies do?

Recent air defence pledges won’t deliver interceptors for years. Europe could help now by providing fighter cover, or by delivering more offensive weapons. Will it act?

If you'd like something even more dangerous, our archive is so old that we don't use these fancy modern rolling stacks. Ours are attached to a motorised chain that runs the length of the room. This means sometimes they like to move by themselves just a little, enough to keep you on edge.

Rolling stacks in the archive with some lovely old archive boxes on them. On the right of the image you can see the handles that have to be pulled to move the stacks, activating the connection with the chain beneath the floor.

Strongly held ideologies in government are problematic because they enable the erasure, dismissal, or oppression of objectively reasonable constituencies based on the belief, not the broad need or representation of the community. If you cannot contain multitudes, don't run for office.

I see this as neither wise nor winning. They are a constituency in the city, and one whose power could be transformational if correctly shaped. I'd be more impressed if he could find the path to making them a good partner in city governance and policy.

New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

My ice-cold boring take that will definitely not go viral is that a primary result with a margin of victory of roughly 1 percent tells you precisely nothing about The Future Of The Party.

👀👌 Border guards thwarted Russian assault on Vovchansk direction before it even began Border guards of the 4th detachment commandant's office destroyed 5 assault groups, 9 shelters, 2 ammunition depots, a fuel and lubricants depot, and an enemy ATV.
