Changing energy in Nova Scotia / Mi’kma’ki, via Renewable to Retail.

Mega heat pumps can replace fossil fuels in industry. In 2018 the frontier sat at ~165°C & a few MW. By 2024: 280°C & up to 100 MW. +115°C & a 50x capacity jump in six years. The tech isn't the bottleneck. Policy, grid access & power prices are. More soon, sign up here janrosenow.substack.com

The IEA says global oil demand will drop 420,000 barrels per day in 2026. At the beginning of the year they were expecting around 1 million barrels per day of demand growth this year. Meanwhile, electric vehicles of all types are selling fast and creating more future demand destruction.

Using 4-hour batteries in sequence (concatenation) provides for longer duration storage. Building out a mix of renewables - wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal minimizes the necessary storage because they complement each other. We can shift from fossil fuels or continue fighting over them 🧪🔌💡☀️💨💧🔋

These data illustrate how concatenating 4-hour batteries, provides longer-term (in this case, 14 hours) of storage. In other words, 4-h batteries already provide long-duration storage, and the batteries are inexpensive (0.28 cents/kWh-grid-output for 15.8 GW/63.2 GWh of batteries)
