Really disappointed to see that this year's NSF GRFP solicitation excludes second-year grad students (this late in the application cycle too!) I'm a previous recipient and applied in my second year because I did rotations during my first year. This unfairly penalizes rotation students.

My latest byline over at Penn State News. In a time of research funding cuts and the uncertain future of science, it's really meaningful to work with these outstanding students and do all we can to prepare them for careers outside of academia.

6 months ago I started my sticker of the month club, where I send people a gut microbiome themed sticker each month. I didn’t expect anyone to actually subscribe to it, but 20 people have so far 🥲 so grateful for each and every one them. Sending out the December drop tomorrow! 💌

Intro post! My name is Grace, I have a PhD in Microbiology from Oregon State where I studied the gut microbiome and health/behavior in a mouse model of autism and in Nosema-infected honeybees. I'm currently a postdoc at Harvard using organs-on-chips to study biotherapeutics for intestinal diseases.

Love a morning cup of coffee? New research published this week in Nature finds that the coffee-drinker microbiome is clearly distinct from non-drinkers. In an analysis of over 22,000 metagenomes across the US and UK, authors found a strong association between coffee consumption and microbiome.

Are there any science sleuths from Africa here? Do you know any? Trying to diversify my network. Science sleuth = anyone scanning the scientific literature for problems or potential fraud, in images, tables, statistics, etc. Hit me in DM or here. Thank you ❤️
