Edwin Jeovanny Lopez Cornejo didn't deserve to die in a concentration camp. No one deserves to die in a concentration camp. Every single death at ICE's hands, every day this modern day gestapo and these modern day concentration camps exist, is a crime against every single one of us.

A 39-year-old El Salvadoran man, who was being held at Delaney Hall, has died, the man's family says. He's the father of a 12-year-old US citizen daughter and has lived in the country for nearly 20 years. www.thecityreporter.nyc/2026/08/03/s...

Happening now: Chicago immigrant advocacy groups are holding a presser outside the city's immigration court to address "mega master" hearings: These are first appearance hearings where 1 immigration judge can address 100s of cases at a time, as part of the Trump admin's push to rush deportations.

New: Chicagoans held a small vigil on Tuesday for Corey Ruiz, who police shot and killed in Madison, WI last Wednesday. The vigil followed an outpouring of community outrage in Madison over the past week, as hundreds took to the street to demand justice for this latest instance of police violence.

An unidentified Madison police officer shot and killed 38-year-old Corey Ruiz last week at close range after he was already on the ground, prompting large protests in the Wisconsin capital.

Federal agents continue to arrest people at or near Chicagoland courts. Rapid responders report that earlier today, ICE took one person near the Kankakee County, IL courthouse. Photos & video shared online corroborate, showing agents placing a man into a Ford (with no front plate) near the court.

Near the ICE facility in Broadview, IL, protesters just marched again in memory of those killed by immigration enforcement. Marchers hold tombstone signs labeled with, and recite the names of over 200 dead since 2018.

Per the police shooting in Madison, WI today, this bears repeating: ICE, CBP, local cops; their violence is all connected. ICE represents an escalation of that violence to be sure. But we wouldn't be here here without years and years of collectively tolerating "regular" cops killing people.

This normalization is taking place more easily precisely because we've also normalized a carceral system that has fed on millions, disproportionately Black and brown people. U.S. police killed 11K+ people in the last decade alone. And we are collectively numb to it:

In Chicago’s Little Village, locals are currently holding an evening rally and vigil for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, two fathers killed by ICE just six days away from each other.

What's the deal with the potential proposed transfer of ownership of Chicago's parking meter system to Stonepeak, a company profiting from Omni Air International ICE deportation flights? @djbyrnes1.bsky.social breaks down the latest. Finance committee meets again on Monday, July 13:

Heavy ICE activity continued across Chicagoland over the July 4 weekend. Rapid responders reported at least 7 detainments (that we know of) yesterday alone. Outside the Will County courthouse in Joliet yesterday, onlookers also recorded an agent pushing one young observer to the ground, hard.

Happy 4th of July from the ICE facility in Broadview, IL, where ~2 hrs ago a Fed fired pepper balls from inside his blacked out SUV, striking an older protester in the torso. Others rendered aid, quickly wiping the irritants off them and getting them a fresh shirt before taking them to the hospital.

Photo of a camera’s back screen, showing a protester wiping pepper ball irritants off another’s shirt. (I did not have capacity to quickly upload in the field.)

Per video shared online, ICE agents detained a man inside the Country Club Hills, IL police office earlier this afternoon. The agents didn't respond to requests to show a warrant, pointed weapons at the man they detained, and one agent raised his fist at the man as another agent grabbed his arm.

Earlier this week, Intelligencer ran a piece called "ICE Won." We definitely don't agree with the title, but its gist—that the normalization of federal police violence is accelerating—is proving accurate. ICE arrests roughly doubled in Chicagoland in June over May. Some more thoughts on that:

Good afternoon from the ICE facility at Broadview, Illinois, where protesters are preparing for their weekly Saturday demonstration. Passing cars coming off I-290 are greeted by protesters with megaphones. Sign: “PRITZKER IS WEAK ON ICE”

Correction: Will County rapid responders are now reporting that ICE agents took at least one person outside the courthouse in Joliet, IL around 11 a.m. That brings us to at least 5 reported ICE abductions across the Chicago area today alone (that I know of).

EYES ON ICE: The Joliet Rapid Response team witnessed an abduction today at 11 am on Jefferson and Chicago St. Outside the courthouse.

One person was abducted. There were four vehicles and four agents in tactical gear that said “police ICE” agents may still be in the area. Please stay vigilant and know your rights. Reach out to the Family Support network at 855-435-7693 for assistance. Via Warehouse Workers For Justice

I'm not yet seeing any reports of confirmed abductions at or near the Will County court today; however, ICE has recently targeted the court in Joliet, and other courthouses in the Chicago area, despite an IL law granting people privilege from civil arrest while attending state court proceedings.
