If NYT + most national outlets can over-simplify and reduce a political report and skate by the main things, they nearly always will. That horseracy habit has clearly had a huge effect on elections and, thus, our nation’s trajectory. Also stories about women and “wrath” just fit together, you know.

Another example of the problem with the fixation with Trump’s putative emotions: here a story about the Trump administration’s corruption, incompetence, and venality is framed as one about Trump’s “wrath.” www.nytimes.com/2026/08/01/u...

Heritage, my ass. You use #-generation for Union but not South? All of us white Americans descend from immigrants and/or colonizers, fool. And people in South largely from those folks who migrated here from the North, often with or to own free labor (my families). This is absurd twisting of history.

Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right

Trey Reed’s Family Says Crump Never Shared Final Independent Autopsy Results, Stopped Responding

Nearly a year after Trey Reed died hanging in a tree, his family says attorney Ben Crump still hasn’t shared his independent autopsy.

🧵 One thing I've repeatedly seen people say over the past year about Trey Reed is this: "No Black man would ever commit suicide by hanging himself in a tree." But Trey was also an individual person with his own internal life, his own feelings. As his grandmother shared here. 1/

Candy Tillman is mystified by Trey's last day alive. He seemed happy, loving. He had never, in her eyes, been a particularly melancholy young man. The only thing that came to mind was something he'd tell her often throughout his adolescence.
"I'm just trying to figure it out," Trey would tell her. "Figure out what, Trey?" she'd respond. He didn't know. "I'm just trying to figure it out," he'd repeat.

“Stripping legal protections from unaccompanied minors threatens to both put them in harm’s way and make it easier for abusers to evade justice, said Maggy Krell, a California assembly member who worked on human-trafficking cases over her two-decade career as a prosecutor.”

Trump administration to let contract aiding unaccompanied minors expire

US government, which owes legal services firm $65m, stopped paying in December, as contract runs out Friday

TODAY. "Without nonprofit legal services, they would be expected to appear in court alone: before a judge and against a trained government attorney.”

Yeah, this was stupid arrogance on steroids that all their Luddite accusations won’t fix. Also: data centers, water, power They thought folks wouldn’t notice or care? That part is stunning. AI hawkers, including inside media where it’s also epidemic, show a stunning disconnect with real people.

Maybe telling everyone this bullshit will take your job in 3 years wasn't the best way to make a first impression?
