air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*? like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

by my count "AI" is about half a dozen distinct genera of thing, first whether deterministic/statistical, then eg whether it does gradient descent, then whether it's a neural net, etc like i do knowledge graphs all day and even 15 years ago they'd be considered "AI" (i remember "agent" claims &c)

i'm sure i've said this before but i had a friend in the early 00s who said something like "you know how some kid at recess would make an insane claim like the teenage mutant ninja turtles are really the new kids on the block? and you just kinda had to believe him? now it's so easy to call bullshit"
