For me ( @kristinwrites.bsky.social ) I got back into #KidLut because I have four kids. Reading has always been a huge part of my life and I wanted that for them too. I’ve read and learned so much as they’ve grown and I guide them in their reading path. As for the magazine — #KidLitChat

#KidLitChat I've always loved kids books. But the first novel length story I wrote I shared with a friend who read it and told me it had a middle grade voice. At the time I did not understand the difference between chapter book and middle grade. But I learned! And I still love middle grade!

A favorite time of year here. Our neighbor messaged that his figs are ripe and were welcome to come gather! Of course we made fig tart with almond flour crust. It’s nearly all eaten now.

2026 has not been a kind year to me. And the past two weeks have been especially heavy. But I’m getting up each morning and maintaining healthy routines, continuing to write even when the writing is not to the level I want yet, and continuing to find glimmers of joy each day. Today’s glimmers:

Monday was grandma’s funeral. Tuesday I drove home with my kids. 14 hours. It was my birthday. So I stopped us for an hour at Trammel Fossil Park. (You can take what you find just don’t dig three holes) And look at these fascinating shells and coral!

Yesterday afternoon the hospice nurse let us know my grandmother has shifted into active dying. She said she may have days or a week or so. The day before I called and all my kids and I told grandma how much we loved her and she told us she loved us too. She was so tired and sounded so weak.

I remember reading a portion of this in class with Karen. It was already powerful then. I’m excited for the story to publish soon.
