DouglassDay.org | #DouglassDay Join us to celebrate the birthday of Frederick Douglass every February 14th. A day of love and collective action for Black history & archives!

A rare summer post! 🎂 Are you teaching about the Black press next year? For the 200th anniversary of Freedom's Journal, we're going to have new ways for college/grad classes to collaborate. Lots of new resources too! Holler at us? Pls help spread the word? DM here or douglassdayorg at gmail

Moving Douglass Day to a new school has been absolute joy! Our program was made possible by the work of 28 people at @ucsantabarbara.bsky.social. Plus an extraordinary show of support from the UCSB Chancellor, Dean of Humanities & Fine Arts and University Librarian. Already looking forward to 2027!

The chancellor of @ucsantabarbara.bsky.social greets worldwide transcribers for #DouglassDay. It is a full circle moment for us! He is the former president of the University where we launched. We thank chancellor Dennis and Eleni Assanis for their steadfast support and leadership.

And we're still going! Happy birthday Frederick Douglass! Still LOTS to transcribe! www.zooniverse.org/projects/dou...

The #DouglassDay livestream may be over (with 18,725 transcriptions/name IDs submitted so far!) but there are still PLENTY of documents to transcribe, and names to find! The project will stay active until everything is finished, so let's keep up the momentum! www.zooniverse.org/projects/dou...

OTD 1967, the Frederick Douglass stamp was issued as part of the Prominent Americans stamp series. Like many people born into enslavement, Douglass didn’t know his actual birthday, which was very difficult for him, and later in his life he chose February 14th to celebrate his birth. #DouglassDay

25c US postage stamp depicts an engraving, inked in rose pink, of an older Douglass, in profile, with thick white hair and white beard, wearing a suit and bow tie.
