Living in the moment.

Such awful news about the passing of Justin Richards. We first met in 1978 as teenagers, and over the years it was wonderful to see his writing career soar. He was a true talent and simply the nicest man in the Whoniverse. (photo by Lisa Bowerman)

OYD* 1912: John Bailey A fine actor I associate with playing dignified ruin and deviously scheming character parts in Doctor Who and The Avengers, but also because… I remember Trevor Baxter’s quietly righteous fury about old fear and shame and how gay men he knew were imprisoned. *Yesterday

Edward Waterfield (John Bailey), long-coated Victorian inventor, and Theodore Maxtible, huge-bearded sinister Victorian patron, standing amid their laboratory experiments in Doctor Who – The Evil of the Daleks)Sezom (John Bailey) in Skeksis-like tattered robes, showing Romana how to fight the Nimon in Doctor Who – The Horns of NimonRalph Bleech (John Bailey) with a gun, a drink and misplaced confidence in The Avengers – Killer

Worth remembering when looking at the horrific scenes in the US right now that both Reform and the Tories have pledged to bring in ICE-style organisations to the UK if they win power

Resharing this thread about Section 28, a cruel piece of homophobic legislation introduced in the UK in 1988. I hope it shows that even when the prospects are grim and hope is faltering, we can take comfort that those moments will pass. It’s likely the seeds of salvation have already been planted.

Section 28 didn’t come out of nowhere. It came from a society where 75% thought homosexuality was wrong. From a society that feared the sight of a man in drag would corrupt. From a society that believed ignorance was better for children than any knowledge of gay lives. 🧵 1/16

Beautiful to hear the Ukrainian choir at the end of the King’s Speech. As for the speech itself, wouldn’t it be good to hear more of that generous, compassionate and hopeful language in public life?
