There's not a linear relationship between medical symptom severity & experience of psychological distress. A person can be very ill but psychologically OK; someone else can have a less severe medical situation & be very distressed by it. This is something to understand, not to judge.
We often reach for positivity bc it’s what we’ve been socialised to do. But trying to be positive abt tragic or traumatic events isn’t liberating, & can actually feel invalidating to ppl who are experiencing those things. Toxic positivity denies ppl the full expression of human emotions. #r4today
