Astronaut Jeremy Hansen is taking Indigenous culture past the Moon: his mission patch was designed by Henry Guimond, an Anishinaabe artist, incorporating one Indigenous perspective about the seven sacred laws, which are represented by animals. 🧪 #ArtemisII

Friends! My students are finishing a term project that will go live to the public. It's a Secret Tour of Sex and Gender that will be available at the Biodiversity Museum. If you're versed in inclusive language, we would really appreciate your input in final edits!
"We expected protective paternalism to play a central role in explaining why some men perceive the tradwife movement positively... We were taken aback to discover that it was instead men’s overt sexism that played the most important role in their attitudes about the tradwife movement.”
Men who favor the tradwife lifestyle often view the women in it with derision
The IOC has announced a trans and intersex athlete ban requiring an invasive SRY genetic test for female athletes. In the 20+ years trans women were eligible, only one ever competed and none ever medaled. This is solving for a problem that doesn't exist. www.nbcnews.com/sports/olymp...
Transgender women banned from Olympics by new IOC policy
The new policy limits eligibility in women’s events to biological females based on genetic screening beginning at the 2028 Games.

#Vancouver friends! Would anyone like to take our prototype tour of sex and gender at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum? 🦅 🐟 This is a final project for my human ecology course. @ubcbotany.bsky.social
Do you steer the luge? Or is it just hold on and hope for the best
I just had a piece accepted in a museum exhibition (It’s the museum of personal failure, thanks for asking)
Big news: My autoimmune thing is almost completely controlled with the enzyme that digests histamine (DAO) But it’s hard to find in 🇨🇦 , so I’m back across the border every few weeks to pick it up 🙄
I made my neighbor a sweater and left it on her porch this morning. Look at her - she’s so proud 🥹❤️

I did not grow up in a paper towel family. I do not buy them, but my spouse does. He asked me to pick up some paper towels and WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE??
@drcatmac.bsky.social #3. (Last one to noodle on for now) Student w/ severe sleep disorder. Cannot be accountable for anything time related. We designed a specific project in my lab that was robust to disruption BUT big picture- how does this work in a team OR w/ regular labs w/o the flexibility
@drcatmac.bsky.social #2: Part of science in most labs is presenting work to others. We have students who cannot do this under any version including prerecording. How do we equitably accommodate while still training in scientific communication?
@drcatmac.bsky.social Here is my 1st hurdle: We see increasing need for students to NOT work in groups. I’ve figured this out for my lab, but for general science guidelines (think chem), limitations on space/reagents/etc necessitate group work.
Huge News from the Western Amazon: it's the year 2025 and we are still describing entirely new, strikingly-distinctive large-bodied bird species! Behold Tinamus resonans sp. nov. the Slaty-masked Tinamou mapress.com/zt/article/v... #Ornithology @tetzoo.bsky.social 🪶
Scored a vintage GAP tracksuit at the thrift (Y’all can see where I’m going with this.) Also scored more vintage Christmas stuff!
Fashion advice needed: Is this vintage dress too white for a guest at a summer beach wedding? (It’s cream, not white)
Today I faced another mental block and tried pole - (also my regular aerial yoga). Yay me!
