Last week in Santiago de Compostela there was a stimulating conference on the Marques de Santillana. While there, I made a point of passing as often as possible the Cathedral's early modern Puerta Santa: I fell for its reuse of the prophets from the late 12th-century choir (destroyed in 1603).

Spent the weekend finishing my paper for this conference in Santiago this week. It has led me to revisit my work on the 'Europolitan' nature of Italian Renaissance humanism and it is stimulating to think afresh. Very much looking forward to hearing the other papers and being inspired by them.

Can confirm. I started my current job in January 2021, during the third UK lockdown. I didn't meet most of my team in person until April/May of that year. Sure enough, they were all centaurs.

I'm on a roll with @magdalenoxford.bsky.social manuscripts. In the last few weeks, identified one book of hours as probably made for the future Suxtus IV, and in another ms an unnoticed copy of Richard Swineshead's Calculationes. Now onto this beauty, the last one needing a finalised description.

If the present PM were effective in persuading his various rivals that this is not the time for infighting and the distraction of a contest, the media would be so frustrated, their inclination would be to crucify him.

This is such a worthy initiative from @mediumaevum.bsky.social and, in these difficult times for the Humanities, a most necessary one.
