Bonus Picture

Selfie of a disheveled man lying in a head while covered by a grey striped blanket. An orange kitten is lying on top of the man’s outstretched arm.

I straight up think we're being lied to about Al coding

I'm a software engineer. The more | use these Al coding agents, the less I trust them

Starting with verbosity. I often find Claude making massive, complex PRs for what should be relatively simple.
It often goes off and does things that are waaaay overkill for what I need. It adds absurd amounts of comments. It blows the scope of every feature up dramatically

I once asked it to help me with address validation. We already had an API in place for it. It started handing every countries different conventions for addresses, despite the fact that my project is USA-focused. What could have been a maybe 500 line change exploded to a 5000 line change. I remember it had a whole section about handling the Thai language, which we explicitly don't support (sorry Thai friends)
I| started getting really suspicious of it so started doing experiments

My first experiment was around the code-review tool. I noticed that it seems to always suggest things, making me question its actual utility. So, I started a project with a single script that simply printed “hello world”. That's it. That's literally all. One line of actual code, and a package file

I ran code review on max and it found 10 errors. I told it to fix them and it started doing tasks that were totally unrelated, like adding additional unnecessary files like contributing.md and .claude and .vscode. Why?
I honestly don’t know

I ran the same code review again and this time it found 12 errors. Huh??? Whatever, I say fix it and do it again.
Still finds errors. Definitely raises some questions. I tell it to fix them, run code review again

It added tests, a bundler, a test suite, CI/CD, docker, some ancillary scripts, and a whole bunch of other shit.
The more I ran it, the more just pure garbage it added. I even explicitly specified: the only goal of this project is to print “hello world". Nothing else.

I think that Al is intentionally do…

looking respectfully 🌹 #fewh #fireemblemfortunesweave

colored illustration of Leda and Olympia from Fire emblem fortunes weave. It shows both of them relaxing in what seems to be Kalla's temple, as the background has a green color scheme and a statue of Kalla is displayed in an alcove above Leda and Olympia. Leda is lying on a pillowed bench, propping her chin on her hand as she looks up to Olypia who's sitting on top of the benches arm rest. Olypia looks back at Leda while lifting a see through blanket with one hand seemingly exposing her bare chest for Leda to see.

Lovebugs. ❤️ Photo from my collection, no date/info.

Color photo of two cats, which is heavily discolored, an orange dish color from age. The cats are snuggled together on a wildly patterned couch. One is a short haired tuxedo, grey tabby, and the other is short haired, black or dark gray.

Bill and Ted are just over 3 months old and have zero idea of personal space

Two tabby kittens laying entangled with each other on a grey cat bed. The one on the left is fully asleep and mostly on top of the one on the right, who is awake and has his head in his paw like he’s resigned to his fate.
