Guess who strolled in at 6.15am, after 10 weeks missing? The cat, not the child. Our vagrant Krampus is microchipped, with a collar message "Do not feed, I have a home". Sleek, fat and well fed. Dirty stopout. He's got prior though, did the same 2 years ago. Little hobo. #cats

Useless idiot. Is a real Doctor. Not a medical one. You get a Palaeoclimatological emergency, call me.
That's it, I confess, I have weakened: I have put the heating on this morning.
Radio 3's Steve Reich at 90 weekend has been a treat for the ears. Especially Music Map, which broke down and explained the influences and techniques behind "Music for 18 Musicians". But then I love Sara Mohr-Pietsch. She's able to explain complex things in a way even an idiot like me can get.

The creeping wood sorrel that has taken root in our "Box o'Many Stanes" (repository for Special Stones outside the back door) is prettier and healthier than anything I've grown this year. I think I'll just do weeds next year.
Orson left over some poster paints so I made a quick crappy painting of our trip to Felbrigg this weekend. I wasn't going to post it, but he noticed Mortimer was in it, and asked me to do one with him in it. So here he is with Daddy You'll notice he's not actually riding his bike. Lazy boy.
@gidcoe.bsky.social Happy birthday, Gid. Thanks to your introduction to such vast swathes of excellent music, my "listen to later" list is now longer than a human lifespan. Best get started then... Today's deep dive: Dur Dur Band.
Sporting Amplifier today, Manchester's finest space rockers. Torn, faded and bleach stained as it is. Unfortunately I doubt the busy 6 Music schedule will be very forgiving of the 10-minute sprawling epics they are best known for. #TShirtDay
Absolutely wonderful episode of Between the Ears yesterday. Headphones recommended as it is ambisonic and totally immersive.

Wonderful section from John Low about the acoustic guitar music in Nairobi from the 50s and 60s in last week's Music Planet. I love how he breaks down how he rhythms were actually played, and how different influences were integrated within the historical perspective.

Soggy morning run today. Squelchy feet relieved by a sodden tawny owl and a squirrel screeching at me from a tree. I was almost swimming through ever evolving waves of the spicy scent from hedgerows and delighting in the 3-dimensional music of the rain in the trees. #morningrun
September is the best time of the year for early morning run sunrise photos. Plus it is neither too hot nor too cold. Goldilocks would love it.
Remember the protestor who interrupted Jacob Rees Mogg at the 2023 NatCon conference, stepping onto the stage to warn about 'the dangers of fascism'? That was musician Dirk Campbell, formerly of Egg and National Health. He is still making music, and his latest album is wonderful.

My early morning runs are definitely becoming late night runs. That little black streak parallel to the wire in the bottom left quadrant? Bat. Finally got a photo.
Unlike Orson, who loves digging and harvesting, Mortimer isn't keen on the allotment, viewing visits as some kind of obscure punishment. Today though, like Don Quixote tilting at windmills, he discovered a fierce joy in cutting back the rampant nettles.
I've only just discovered how low calorie cottage cheese and salsa is. Here's me new "I've used all my calories today but I don't want to go to bed hungry" snack. 130 calories for this whole tub... #lowcaloriesnacks
The beaches. Definitely my favourite thing about North Norfolk. Two of those distant dots are my boys. Mercifully, not fighting. For once. This might be the most restful afternoon I've had since school broke up. #northnorfolk #beach
Turns out, it's not bloating due to gluten or dairy intolerance. I've looked 6 months pregnant for the last 5 years simply because I was regularly eating over 1000 extra calories in peanut butter and dark chocolate, and calling it a "healthy snack." #peanutbutteranonymous
I don't know much about birds, but either that mallard is tiny, or that wren is ENORMOUS.
Farewell East Sussex. We'll miss the field straight out the back filled with all this kind of glory every night. Also the heron, red kites, noisy sparrowhawk, and clouds of chittering house martens. Won't miss the 9 hour power outages, barely accessible lane, and tummy bugs. #holidaydisasters
