Played Above and Below: Haunted twice so far, both at 3p. Despite having multiple stories as you go on excursions, the game offers little limited strategy. Basically you know from the beginning what you have to do, making it predictable, except for the excursion outcome. #boardgamesky

#YokohamaDuel was a great surprise. Instead of mancala, the game becomes a worker placement with cards. Definitely recommend it! #boardgames

Last week I played Raiders of Scythia for the first time. It’s just like Raiders of the North Sea with a couple of more details that help in raiding. I think I prefer North Sea better though, but I am curious to see what @garphillgames.bsky.social will do. #boardgames

Played Trismegistus yesterday. While the Korean version has a beautiful production, I could care less about what my opponent was doing. The only decision that could affect me was the dice drafting, which still did not feel that important. It also felt very fiddly. #boardgames

Another game I played recently was Formidable Farm. Unfortunately, it feels very repetitive and it overstayed its welcome. It did remind me of Fabled Fruit without the fun part. #boardgames

One of the highlights of recent weeks is sea Divers of Jeju, a Verb and write game about a tradition of Korean women diving in Jeju Island. A game by Hisashi Hayashi. This was a pleasant surprise. #boardgames

After trying the solo version a couple of times, I’ve decided to start #Fliptown solo campaign. I’m already done with chapter 3/12. Very simple but kinda decent puzzle. #boardgames

Just played Origin Story #boardgame. I love tricktakers (own 20+) but this one fell flat. The idea is there but the execution is meh. Having to pick story cards, deciding what to charge added time without feeling rewarding. The rulebook could’ve been better and the box doesn’t fit sleeved cards.

I wish @boardgamegeek.com had an award for best podcaster instead of podcast. There are some podcasts that I listen to because of one person - it seems like the co-hosts don’t do their homework or they just make very unfortunate remarks towards their peers, especially if they are females #boardgames

Also played Rats of Wistar on the same day. It has got a really tight economy and the actions can be really restricted depending on the position of the slices in the wheel. I’m not sure if it is going to stay in my collection for too long. It might be my fifth most favorite Luciani game #boardgames

After playing our third game of Pandemic Legacy Season 1, we played Orbit. Felt a little too chaotic for me. If I were to play another Knizia racing game, I’d choose The Quest for El Dorado. Otherwise, I still find Flamme Rouge more fun. #boardgamesky

Trying a #soloboardgame today. Maquis is a great worker placement with crunchy decisions that make you question all your life choices. Lots of replayability with the several missions that come in the box. I definitely recommend it! Any similar solo games? #boardgamesky

The final assignment for the Global Issues and Discourse class required students to play games with themes that address global issues directly or indirectly. One of the and the assigned game was Wingspan by @elizhargrave.bsky.social. Both the box and the bird feeder came back damaged #lessonslearned

I forgot but this was my #boardgamehaul from my trip to Hong Kong two weeks ago. Only one game was bought there, whereas the rest were brought by a friend from the US to HK. I’m glad to add Black Forest back and finally complete my Return to Dark Tower collection (Coffers 1 and 2 not pictured)

I had played #Viscountsofthewestkingdom once, and for some reason I could not remember much about it. And I still had the same feeling playing it again yesterday. It is definitely way below Architects, Paladins, and Raiders for me. I would not necessarily request to play it again. #boardgames

Played the awaited #forestry game yesterday. Unfortunately, it has a significant amount of downtime between turns, and the contract completion part of it did not seem that satisfying. I know it was the first play, and maybe I’ll change my mind, but I’m glad I sold my copy right away #boardgames

This is the third time I own this game. I like it more than ever before. I still prefer Architects, but Paladins has a nicely crafted design. So many ways of tackling strategy and it allows you to change and adapt halfway. I’m still fearful of trying the expansion #boardgames

Had a gaming marathon last Saturday. We played Inventors of the South Tigris, The Crew Quest for Planet Nine, Vivo, Beast and Kingdom Crossing. Inventors was a pleasant surprise after Scholars, which just didn’t work for me. However, just like Paladins, I’d rather play 2p #boardgames

Last weekend, I went to #tokyogamemarket Fall. It was my second time there and I bought less than half of the games I bought in Spring. I also got to meet @espergames.bsky.social of Jisogi and @bajir, who designed Trickarus, one of my favorite trick takers of last year.

First time playing 6p Dune Imperium Uprising. Apart from one player suffering from severe AP, it was a fun time. Having said that, not sure I wanna play it 6p again. It went over 3h with some downtime between turns. Anyone else had a similar experience? #boardgames

Merv has been on my list of games to try for a while. Despite winning the game today, I felt like I didn’t play optimally. I definitely want to play it again and I definitely prefer it over Sankore. However, I don’t need to own it. #boardgames

I finally got to play my Anniversary Box of #Orleans using the Intrigue board. Despite being attacked left and right, I still love this game. I guess I have to think of different strategies. I’m so glad I got this copy, as it is definitely in my top 10. The production value is great. #boardgames

We played #Shinjuku incorrectly, and I don’t tend to like pick-up-and-deliver games. However, I liked it and want to play it again. This is the European version and includes two variants. The car variant is a must! #boardgames

Learned Lift Off today, a card drafting game in which you are launching rockets. The positive interaction was a good thing, but the gameplay feels quite long based on what it offers. So many drafting games I’d rather play instead. #boardgames

Played #Luthier 4p last weekend. I remember watching the Thinker Themer video about it a year ago and I chose not to back it based on the blind bidding. After playing it, I was happy that I didn’t. The gameplay feels quite repetitive and predictable, just like Distilled. #boardgamesky

#Petiquette is a game where you are trying to figure out which card goes in the sequence (?). Despite having no correct answer, you want to make sure your answer matches other players’ so you can score points. Hearing players explain their logic is the most fun part! Love this game! #boardgames

I recently on vacation to the Kansai region of Japan: Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Kobe and had an amazing time. However, I still stopped by a few board games stores and found a few of my Holy Grails: Ostia mini expansions, the Downfall of Pompeii, and Savage Bowl TT. #boardgames
