Apparently my tastebuds have gotten used to good coffee and now Starbucks tastes terrible. Was it always this bad and i just didn't know any better?? This whole week has been a coffee disaster. Next time I'm bringing a moka pot and coffee grounds with me. 😭

Plant and dog parent, books and DnD lover. Can usually be found knitting. Older than ciabatta.
On the train to Alexandria, VA for a week at the office, which i am very much enjoying (the train ride, the week in office is as yet tbd). Ensconced with knitting and a podcast!
Fantastic news!!!! I'm very excited for this! Still slowly making my way through Absolution bc i don't want it to be over yet. Wonderful to have this to look forward to.
Thrilled to announce The Strange Architect series over at Variety. There were several possibilities, but thankful to FSG for stepping up and creating a home for it. variety.com/2026/biz/new...
without saying your age, what’s your favorite movie that came out when you were 18? Some competition, but going by how much of the movie i can quote fron memory, it's this one.

I don't go anywhere around here but BOY HOWDY did that spark something in me 🥵
if this doesn’t also send you into a mild panic we cannot be friends
SO badly. People would literally die. She is an OBGYN MD and in-vitro fertilization expert with a phd in spontaneous abortion prevention methods (yes, i am extremely proud of her 🥹) Otoh, she would also never be able to do my job as it involves a lot of very specialized training. 🤷🏻
Thought experiment- if you were suddenly appointed to do your sibling’s job, how badly would you suck at it?
Tfw your lunch break involves 15 mins of blueberry picking with your wife and you manage to collect a full quart from the bushes by the front door. Blueberries are coming in, y'all!
Just finished reading Star Shipped by Cat Sebastian and ohhhh my god, i am OBSESSED with this book. Got it from the library but i will absolutely be buying a copy (maybe one digital and one paper). It is everything my fanfic and Star Trek lover heart desires. Cannot recommend it enough. 😍😍🌟
Finally got to watch Project Hail Mary tonight and holy wow, i see what all the hype is about! It was incredible!! A little sad that i didn't get to see it at the cinema bc the timing was bad for us, but man, what a ride! I will definitely be watching it again!

Somebody had the worst time of his life today. Pure misery. (He's fine.)
Finally, FINALLY catching up on Solari and trying very hard to resist the impulse to make "Sandy Dildo Vodka Bath" my pw to everything
Just started The Incandescent by Emily Tesh. It's possible that she is becoming one of my no-questions-asked authors. Everything i have read by her is clever, engaging, and honestly special. This book promises all of that and more.*rubs hands together gleefully*
It's a really bizarre and surreal feeling to be living in this timeline, considering i wrote my phil phd thesis on AI, consciousness, and subjectity. I spent 2 out of 4 chapters trying to establish what a conscious self-aware AI would look like; it is absolutely nothing like what exists rn.
Ted Chiang is brilliant. He takes the question of AI consciousness to its logical conclusion—really a must-read, right down to the last word: www.theatlantic.com/philosophy/2...
My two Econ teachers in my last 2yrs of highschool were both a delight. Mr Richardson (elderly, wild hair) once roasted an entire class saying my English was better than any of theirs on one of our assignments (i was the only foreign student in the class).
Thinking about shitty teachers is a bummer so, what about good teachers? Who’s in your Hall of Fame & why? ⭐️ Mrs. Flam, 5th grade. Colorful polyester suits, orangish hair in an updo. Played guitar & taught us to sing age-inappropriate folk songs. Could see I was struggling & was unfailingly kind ❤️

Hey plant-caring friends! Anyone have a rec for an online store with a good selection of succulents? I do all my buying from local plant stores, but a friend is looking for a specific plant.
Omg a friend of ours just turned us onto this slow-cial app called Roost! YOU SEND MESSAGES AT THE RATE OF CARRIER PIGEONS. YOU CHOOSE YOUR BIRDS. You find your friends and add them, and also find penpals. IT'S THE BEST OMG. i can invite people if there is anyone interested!
Just finished Cinder House by Freya Marske, it was SO GOOD!!! Fabulous retelling and delightfully queer. Loved it!!! Highly recommend.
It's my best wife's birthday today!!! 🩷🩷🩷 Please tell her some good things!
It's my birthday today so I'm borrowing an idea from some other friends: Tell me a nice memory you have of me, or a fun time we hung out together or a thing that reminds you of me! Or, recommend me a book to read (happy/satisfying endings preferred)
Immediately obsessed with with tiny new buddy!
'He's tiny! It's blue!' Charles Darwin Foundation scientists discover a new species of octopus nearly 1,800 metres (5,900 feet) down on the ocean floor near the Galapagos Islands. No bigger than a golf ball, the blue octopus has stubby little arms with only one row of suckers u.afp.com/SRvN

TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN. Maybe add a dog and a book. But mainly this.
#injury I only realize what huge leaps and bounds i have made in terms of my body's strength when i throw my back out for the first time in literal years and it doesn't result in spending a week lying in bed unable to move for the pain. It's still sore but this would have laid me tf out 5yrs ago.
You wouldn't believe how long this dog is when you look at him curled up like a little shrimp!
It is ✨🎉my birthday 🎉✨ and for my birthday, as is my bluesky tradition, all I want is for people to quote this post with a photo of your pet(s) being really silly, weird little guys, to make all our days better ✨🫶
Me this morning: omg a bluebird! (It had landed on the fence) that's so cool, i haven't seen one irl before! Me now: 😐
This is actually incorrect, @drniftyplum.bsky.social and I just rescued a bluebird that got himself trapped in the woodstove (which, yes, did indeed have a few live coals left from this morning's fire) so my current mood is more ADRENALINE SURGE AAAAAAA
