I’m gonna say virtually all authors need to get serious about textiles. Who is weaving them? Out of what? Who’s turning them into clothes and how much does it cost and do you have any idea how HARD all of that was before modern mills

To be best of my knowledge Edinburgh’s History & Games Lab is the 1st to use TTRPG Actual Play as a REF-able scholarly output. (I’ve done a bit of consulting, & hope to observe) A lot of my research lately has (unexpectedly) led to Old & New Chaosium’s role in the history & future of AP.

I suspect most writers have that one authority figure who was snide about their writing, allowing that writer to be fueled by spite for years if not decades. My version was the creative writing prof who was dismissive about science fiction. I sent him a copy of Old Man's War when it was published.

My grades are high because I let students revise and resubmit work. I've found that allowing students to grapple with revisions reinforces their learning, which I observe through verbal debriefs. Given a chance to revise, students speak more confidently about their work.

If I accomplish one thing as a Bluesky account, let it be this: I want to show you the REAL joys of bookselling. The "got it for a dollar and sold it for a hundred" trope is tired, and frankly scurrilous. My two? anecdotes like that are not even on the Top 100 list of things I love about my work.
