Withdrawal of funding for this iconic contribution to astronomy and the physical sciences has huge implications locally, nationally and internationally. We must protest this decision.

www.itv.com/news/2026-05... This is not unique to Watford. Other hospitals have achieved this. Leadership, vision, collaboration, listening to staff and patients. The solutions are there for all Trusts. Until then, kudos to Watford 👍🏻

Another oncall weekend done. Great patients and people. An interested and engaged FY1. And lots of Geriatric medicine topics discussed including many items from the Profanisaurus of Geri Med: Acopia ✅ Failed discharge ✅ Poor historian ✅ Good fun tackling the issues and getting things done 👍🏻
This wouldn’t have happened on Ron Butterfield’s watch.

Another successful weekend on-call, de-spouting the Emergency Department one horrifying beaker lid at a time.
This is a terrific piece of work. It’s a reminder that data (and science) is a powerful tool, especially in the face of resolute ignorance and an absence to listen to people who actually know what they’re talking about.

We’ve had a bit of a hiatus but the L5 Learning Board is back up and running after our migration/exodus from that other place. As always the content and variety is driven by conversations with our terrific resident doctors. And I always keep learning too.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Hmm. Sure. The solution to this is to fund more GP places. We have a surplus of incredibly well-trained GPs waiting to join terrific GP colleagues in primary care. Yes, look at booking systems, but BIGGER PICTURE. HM Government should choose more wise solutions.
Every GP practice must now offer online booking

It’s great to see the RCP working with other Colleges and Trusts to tackle this. Good examples across the UK of hospitals with NO temporary escalation spaces or corridor care. It’s said TES use is a choice and not an inevitability. We can do so much better.
