We don’t have a right to ask whether we’re going to succeed or not. The only question we have a right to ask is what’s the right thing to do?” --Wendell Berry

Imagine being upset about a convenient feature that allows you to leave your keys in your pocket and not worry about locking them in the car. Then imagine you've confused this feature for another that saves money at lights by disabling your engine temporarily. This is how stupid Sean Duffy is.
Sean Duffy: "You know the stop/start button on your car? I hate that thing. Thank you Lee Zeldin! He's gotten rid of it and the first cars without the stop/start button are rolling off the line."
This is multiple levels of dumb. First, Zeldin didn't get rid of the stop/start button, so Duffy is showing he doesn't know what he's talking about. Zeldin the "autostop" feature which stops an ICE engine when at stoplights and similar moments. Second, getting rid of the "autostop" feature is dumb.

A Trump official diverted firefighting resources to a fire on his private ranch. He got 9 aircraft for the 7-acre fire while the 90,000 acre Grasshopper fire in Oregon got about the same. These guys kneecapped wildfire prevention and now they’re diverting what few resources remain for personal gain.

Today we're launching Irreplaceable, a movement of ordinary Americans coming together to decide the future of artificial intelligence. Right now, some of the most important decisions on Earth are being made in a handful of rooms in northern California. 🧵
Proof we got RFK lying on the record during his confirmation hearing (a crime). RFK should be referred to the DOJ for criminal investigation, and when Democrats retake the Senate, he will be at the top of the list of Trump officials I will hold accountable for endangering American families.

I'm not an AI engineer, but I pay close attention to the growing number who argue we can have socially-beneficial AI applications without the enormous environmental destruction and financial burdens on everyday households that LLMs are bringing. Here is Suraj Mirpui of Lowdown Labs making the case.

We don’t need to burn our climate commitments or pave over fields and ranches to realize the benefits of artificial intelligence.

Ten years later, we're still learning more about the terrifying counterinsurgency tactics that Energy Transfer's contractors used to win the public opinion war against Dakota Access Pipeline protesters. Important investigation by @drilledmedia.bsky.social: www.hcn.org/issues/58-8/...

Standing Rock increased division in North Dakota between Indigenous communities and nearby non-Indigenous communities. Propaganda made it worse.

There are so few things in this world, and particularly in this country, that feel like that are just genuinely, purely good. There's always a catch, always a caveat. But Dolly Parton was one of the few that was just, purely, good.
New Labour attack ad on Reform's Richard Tice for saying we should enjoy climate change. I think this is the first time Labour has ever published an ad attacking another party for opposing climate action
Feeling pretty lucky to have gotten to see this live, in person tonight. What a goal, what a moment.
Caiya Hanks scores her first goal since her return from an ACL injury, and it's a CRUCIAL one for Portland! ☄️
This tracks. When we bought our Portland home in 2018, my wife who grew up here was unconcerned about a/c. Afterall, growing up here her family home didn't have it. Turns out, we need it and we're glad our home has it. Even 8 years ago it was a new selling point. Now...basically a necessity.

i worry that this runs up against the "this is too blunt and horrifying to be true, it must be more complicated than that" impulse, even though it really is exactly that blunt and horrifying
I think it's the first thing you impeach him for. Worse than anything the King or Parliament did to the colonists.
I was in Oregon in the path of totality for the solar eclipse in 2017 and it totally blew my mind. It's one of those things that is so, so much cooler than you'd ever expect before you experience it. Congrats to everyone who got to witness it yesterday...it's truly a bucket list experience.

Smart Democratic campaigns would run this on repeat in any district anywhere near a data center fight
Trump: It's a mistake to be against data centers. I don't think they're unsightly. They're the most incredible buildings I've ever seen

For the record, snow days that cancel school are way more fun than smoke days that cancel camp and swim lessons.
It's a Bluesky post so one must not blame him for the simplicity...but the question to answer is a lot more complex than just "where are the pro-clean-energy influencers?" Or, at the very least, it's a "Yes, and" from me anyways. Either way, the Heated article is long, but a must-read.
I genuinely don't know what to do about this. In our diseased information environment, one MAGA-adjacent "influencer" can do more to shape public opinion than mountains of studies or facts. Where are the pro-clean-energy influencers to counter this shit?

Trump has denied Democrat-led states from $250 million in disaster aid that would have been approved by every previous president, including Trump in his first term. So far this year we've had: the warmest winter on record in the mountain west, a record-shattering heat wave in Europe, once in a thousand year rainfall and flooding texas and forest fire smoke blanketing the mid west and the north east. Feels like something's going on with the climate!
Thankfully we aren't (yet) dealing with extensive smoke here in the PNW, although given the winter we had it feels like it's only a matter of time. Sending solidarity to those across the country waking up to yet another day of orange skies and claustrophobic feelings.
