Last year I brought a whole backpack mouse and keyboard steam deck setup to Quakecon but this year I'm going to try just portable monitor + steam deck + steam controller
So... I've been missing out by not playing Control until now, huh?
My wife is forcing me to read the videogame book that all the millennial women are reading It's fun so far tbh
Ok I have a random one, for my own research What game has the coolest concrete/stone pillar bullet destruction tech?
I was trying to decide what the 10 most influential (not necessarily best) FPS are up to now and this is what I came up with: Wolfenstein 3d Doom Quake Half-life/Medal of Honor (can't decide) Halo Call of Duty 4 Far Cry 3 Overwatch PUBG Doom Eternal
What's your favorite flavor profile? Mine is "ooh mommy"
This is 100% the option I prefer also, but it's only practical if aided by an algorithm, and it's getting to the point where even that isn't sufficient to keep wading through Steam releases from being exhausting and demoralizing to players.
But I'd prefer a third option which is people sludging through and trying to find the good shit again
I wonder if the deluge of slop inundating every open platform is going to result in the floodgates closing again over the next few years, or if algorithms will just continue growing into being the new de facto floodgates.
This week's Disk Cleanup is with Dusk & Iron Lung creator @duskdev.bsky.social. We talked obscure noughties shooters, survival games, soulslikes, and naturally, had some Big Thoughts on Doom... www.pcgamer.com/gaming-indus...

The nightstick baton is a great weapon to avoid the loud screams or bloody mess when taking out enemies, but when it comes to the armored constables, you'll feel comparatively naked. #gloomwood #screenshotsaturday
My kids are watching The Little Mermaid but I would rather see a movie about The Big Mermaid

Doom: The Dark Ages is so much fun It's a but messier than Eternal in a lot of ways but tighter than 2016, and that ends up being a really nice middle ground for people like me who want combat with deliberate decision making, but aren't extremely high level players.
I just stepped outside and IT DOES NOT SMELL HEALTHY EITHER GEEZ
Debated about whether I wanted to share this publicly or not, but I want to keep you guys up with what I've been working on and honestly it's easier and probably more interesting if I just show you instead of explaining it. youtu.be/KIiN-oWvX-8?...

As a 36 year old father of three, games like this are my only way of engaging with youth culture. I assume this is a completely accurate portrayal of zoomer dating and night life. youtu.be/FKO-EDlpYIQ?...

Unsure if this is a joke or not but unironically there's probably a lot of demand for this, at a low tolerable level. Most guys I know would at least try out a shooter where it feels like getting shot with airsoft pellets.
personally I think the next step is simulated pain. In the future video games will be wired directly into our nervous system. If you get stabbed in the game, you actually feel it.
Still convinced that the next step in virtual immersion beyond VR is simulated smells. People meme on the concept like "bro you don't want to smell a Resident Evil game" but our sense of smell is one of the most immediately evocative senses even for the simplest of things.
When I was younger I thought Karl Marx was related to the Marx brothers, and he was just the weird super serious black sheep of the family.
