#ItsAllAboutTheHistory News "The sale is not just about the value of the ring; it is about the history behind it and the privilege of being the person who helped bring an important piece of the past back into the public eye*," Jones said *Albeit temporarily. The ring went to an unnamed phone bid.

'Once in a lifetime' ring found in Cotswolds sells for thousands

The metal detectorist who found the ring says the sale is "beyond anything he could have imagined".

Metal detecting is not just problematic in the Netherlands. I think we should address the myth of the detectorist as a citizen scientist. Citizen science is about cooperation and co-creation. Here, the best-case scenario is reporting finds after the fact, worst-case: illegal trade in antiquities.

#ItsAboutTheHistory News Detectorists welcome the auction of elements of the Hambleden Hoard of medieval coins at Spinks, dispersing the "internationally important" find for private gain. (See previous post about how the French government deals with archaeological finds collected without permits.)

A FaceBook post about the auction of the Hambelden Hoard and hoping those involved in the find will be rewarded.

It is with deep sadness that Dr Marianne Moen and I resigned our positions as Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Archaeology this morning. What follows is the letter we sent to the EAA's executive board, outlining the reasons for our resignation 1/n

Well... A reminder of Jan vote: Motion A: 67% (486 members) agreed to exclude Israeli institutions (not individuals) from participating in EAA AMs until the end of the genocide in Palestine ends [paraphrased] 1/2 www.e-a-a.org/EAA/News___P...

An inscription from a temple to Serapis in York, possibly built during the stay of the emperor Septimius Severus and family c.208-211 CE. The northern-most attested temple to an Egyptian god, the York temple may have also housed shrines to Isis, Harpocrates and Anubis. 🏺 #AncientBluesky #Egyptology

A Latin inscription carved on a gritstone tablet and painted with red text. The translation reads “To the holy god Serapis, Claudius Hieronymianus, legate of the Sixth Legion, Victorious, built this temple from the ground".
