I'd urge folks who are outraged by Emily Wilson's take to read the brilliant intro to her edition of The Odyssey. She's treating the movie as a very different, problematic, translation in a long tradition of them (& of snark among translators). Nolan didn't read it or didn't take hers seriously.

Last year, I exposed more than $50,000 being spent on other giant Trump banners at other government buildings across D.C. Congress has long banned using federal funds for propaganda – and this self-aggrandizement is a clear violation of that law.

Allen Guelzo, in his 2021 Robert E. Lee bio, puts D.C. Emancipation Commission evidence from Lee slave agent James Eveleth in the case of Philip Meredith (a man enslaved by Lee and leased to Eveleth) in the mouth of the enslaved Meredith. Meredith only signed his petition 'X,' not testifying at all.

Here is Waldstreicher's conclusion: Americans fought a civil war in the 1860s over how to interpret the Declaration of 1776 as well as the Constitution of 1787. As an American history professor, I regularly read new books, articles, and dissertations, and also evaluate unpublished manuscripts for journals and book publishers. I would not categorize the recent and emerging historiography in the binary way that Ezra Klein does.

There has been a severing of American history into two visions: one that can only see glory and one that can only see suffering and sin.

I saw the flags on this interactive - based in part on my work - when I visited in February. I asked a staff member but they would not admit to knowing what the flags were.

It remains unclear when these changes were made. @fallonroth.bsky.social reported last summer that these items — and an interactive exhibit at the Benjamin Franklin Museum about the Founding Father’s views on slavery, which is still in tact — were flagged for the Trump administration’s review.

You know very well that 85% of Jews don't support AIPAC, not even close. You also know that AIPAC doesn't even claim to be a Jewish group. You also know that there are more "Christian Zionists" in the US, than there are Jews, of any beliefs. You are making US Jews less safe.
