There’s lots of praise for stuff like this which I can’t compute. What makes it objectionable for Israel to compete this year that didn’t apply last year, other than that last year was *your* moment in the spotlight and this year isn’t? It’s very easy to do what’s right when nothing’s on the line.

‘Clear conflict’ between Eurovision ideals of ‘inclusion and dignity for all’ and decision to let Israel compete, says 2024 winner

I think part of the reason more people are speaking up about Gaza now is the long history of famine being depoliticised as a sort of natural/Malthusian disaster rather than a catastrophe resulting from the decisions of political actors. You can ask to feed the starving, but not why they are hungry.

The Tories are like the evil stepmum the electorate live with who bans them from having friends and feeds them a diet of pure asparagus whilst the Labour Party is like the aunt they visit once a year who gives them fudge and slips them a £20 note which stops the child from going apeshit.

The UK justice department has lost all veneer of being anything other than a rogue, lawless entity. They will overrule independent sentencing guidelines because enough far-right crybabies whine about it, but will damn throwing red paint over machines abetting genocide as terrorism. Take care.

I feel like we’re getting to the ‘do something or get out the way’ stage of rising fascism and I have to get off my chest that as much as they individually seem like nice enough people, the current Green Party leadership are not meeting the moment whatsoever.

Poverty is the new draft. From one study in 2000, just before Iraq: - 50% of all recruits have literacy/numeracy skills at levels at or below those expected of an 11 year old From a sample of 500 recruits: - 69% were found to have come from a broken home - 40% were joining the Army as a last resort

i would like to officially apologise to the supporters of keir starmer in light of this new evidence which proves that his values truly are rooted in those of the labour party.

A photograph of Clement Attlee next to a quote satirically attributed to him which mocks the rhetoric of Keir Starmer:
"To the voters who made this victory possible: you know it has been the greatest and most ambitious dream of the Labour Party to establish in this country a National Health Service. Unfortunately, Hitler crashed the economy - the Luftwaffe has left a £22 billion black hole in our economy which will hinder us severely. Therefore, in order to fix the foundations and bring about real change, I have made the difficult decision to recuperate our losses by overhauling the benefits system to get our veterans back into the workforce - there has been an overdiagnosis of PTSD which has wrongly barred people from the opportunity of learning how work may set them free. I know the benefits of hard work - my dad was a toolmaker."

National defence is not determined many guns you buy - you're not going to be able to defend yourself if the health service is so underfunded you can't treat the wounded, if your manufacturing workforce are living in poverty, if all the public utilities are in the hands of foreign billionaires etc.

‼️ BREAKING: Labour set to cut "unprotected" public spending by up to 11% to fund defence spending. "We have to spend more on defense, that’s the reality of the situation" said Starmer. Those facing cuts include DWP and Local Government. (Source: Bloomberg)

The BBC won't give her front-page coverage, but Khalida Jarrar is one of the 90+ Palestinian hostages set to be released as part of the ceasefire deal. A PFLP politician, she was arrested in December 2023 and has been held without charge in a windowless 2.5 x 1.5 meter cell.

There is a lesson that the left needs to learn from the last 15 months. What we are doing is totally ineffective. If Trump was able to end the genocide simply by demanding it, Biden could have done the same. Public pressure, protests, the ICJ, everything...it wasn't enough to force Biden's hand.

Trump and Musk's threats to Britain, Canada and Greenland shouldn't be shocking; it's what the US, with their allies, have been doing to the whole world since 1945, except now they're threatening the sovereignty of white countries. The imperial core would rather cannibalise than loosen it's grip.
