I feel like I should know this, but can somebody explain the etymology of "quadrat"? Why don't we just call it a square? Students always write "quadrant", which is wrong (though I understand the confusion), but I can't explain why we use quadrat instead

OMB commenting period ends today. That's not the end of the fight. UNIONS will pick up where individuals left off and work together to sue the federal government. In my organizing, people constantly ask me what unions can do for higher ed. They can do this. And universities won't. So sign a card.
Holy COW. Text analysis of comments on the OMB rule: overwhelming opposition, overwhelmingly not form letters. (But 9 in 10 comments supporting the rule ARE form responses, LOL) Whatever happens next, folks have stepped up.
