At @mebconf.bsky.social I presented my current work on modelling of #snow ❄️ & #microclimate 🌡️ in the European #Alps. Thanks to all participants for the conversations, and for awarding me one of three Cool Poster Design awards! 🎉 Thanks #TOMST for sponsoring, more urban microclimate data coming up :)

*New paper* Big congratulations to our former MSc student Alexandra Kuttnig for having her thesis published! 🎉 Alex studied how seasonality and grazing exclosures shape bird community dynamics in West African drylands. 🐦🌾🐏🌳 📃 Full paper (incl Alex's beautiful drawings!): doi.org/10.1002/ece3...

Seasonality and Grazing Exclusions Shape Bird Community Dynamics in West African Drylands

Seasonal changes, more than grazing exclusions, shape bird community composition in the Sahel region of Burkina Faso. However, grazing exclusions enhanced habitat heterogeneity, supporting regional b...

Treelines shift uphill with #climatechange, right? A new global study by @ecologybasel.bsky.social shows: it’s not that simple. 25% of treelines are now lower than 20 years ago. Besides warming, land use and fire also play a role. @oeaw.bsky.social 👉 www.unibas.ch/en/News-Even...

A warm welcome to Sonja Wipf who has joined our team as a Postdoc! Sonja brings a lot of experience in alpine plant ecology. She will be working on the #AsMi project to explore assisted migration as a conservation measure for threatened mountain plant species🌼↗️🏔️ It's great to have you in the group!😊

We are very excited to announce that our group leader Sabine Rumpf has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant for her #GloNoMo project to investigate the global status, trends, drivers and impacts of non-native plant species in mountain ecosystems 🎉 @unibas.ch Details on the project 👇🧵

Seven researchers from the University of Basel receive ERC Starting Grants – an exceptional result for the University of Basel. Over the next five years, they will each receive between EUR 1.5 million and EUR 2.3 million in funding.

#ClimateChange is altering #Arctic vegetation - maybe not (yet) in terms of species diversity, but large changes in community composition are already visible. Crucial study & a massive effort by our friends from #ITEX & #TeamShrub - congrats! 🧪🌐

🌸Plant diversity dynamics over space and time in a warming Arctic 🌸 Our new study @nature.com analysed plant diversity change in >2000 tundra plots over 4 decades. We found that plants changed unevenly, mostly driven by warming and biotic interactions. www.nature.com/articles/s41... 🧵 (1/7) 🌐🧪🌱🌍
