The past of interactive entertainment. Celebrating more than 30 years of videogame history through 425+ issues of Edge magazine. By @jeffsayhi.bsky.social
I've only got one of my old issues left on the shelf now. I couldn't bring myself to get rid of this one!
EDGE magazine #426 featuring 1666 Amsterdam on the cover, this is one of my most aniticipated games!
New Edge day, featuring a new career high interview from me as I got to sit down with the legendary Hideki Kamiya for almost 3 hours to discuss his 30-year spanning career as a pioneer of game design. Give it a read, it’s… Viewtiful
"Nights is an enigmatic game that the public might take to their hearts or might reject out of hand. Either way, it's not quite enough to be an all-time classic." Sega’s Nights into Dreams was released 30 years ago this week! It received a solid 8 from Edge, back in issue 36
Obligatory train travel Edge magazine photo. I hope this never ceases publication.
“…an audacious, singular vision that delivers a message to the many pretenders that followed in Limbo's wake: this is how it's done.” Inside is 10 YEARS OLD this week! It received glowing praise and a 9 from Edge, back in issue 296. Did you play it?
“One of the game's most impressive and original features is the ability to zoom in on targets when sniping” Was Goldeneye the first game to do this?
“Some texture mapping is almost photorealistic in quality”

“…I don’t consider myself an artist, but a designer.” An interview with Ico and Shadow of the Colossus director Fumito Ueda, after his departure from Japan studio and before the release of The Last Guardian. 📖: E261 (Christmas 2013)
Edge Issue 228 - June 2011 Tomb Raider The story behind the rip-roaring rebirth of an icon #EdgeMagCover
Probably the most deserved 10 of all time honestly. Not only trying a ton of stuff that had never been done before, on new hardware with a bunch of limitations, but also abundant in creativity and scope - AND still a reliably good time TODAY.
“The world of videogaming has just changed forever.” Super Mario 64 released in Japan on June 23rd, 1996. 30 YEARS AGO TODAY! It was the first game to receive a 10 from Edge, almost three years after the magazine’s first issue.

“…Resident Evil was never destined for the faint of heart. Where it is destined for, however, is the PlayStation pantheon.” A 9/10 review for the first entry in Capcom’s survival horror series. 📖: E33 (June 1996)
I loved @paulweedon.bsky.social’s article in the new issue of Edge about the different approaches composers take to music for games, especially on the balancing act between the music and the sound design.
