Thought I'd have a look at a few Darwin related things in Edinburgh following the fantastic HSS/ESHS conference this week, including the grave of Charles Darwin (1758-78), a medical student in the city and son of Erasmus Darwin, and a memorial to his more famous nephew.

Delighted to have spoken on the @englishheritage.bsky.social podcast on the 'History of Natural History' with Sabrina Villani, curator of Charles Darwin's home at Down House, and Amy Matthews: open.spotify.com/episode/744D...

Seeing the evening light through the memorial window to Leonard Jenyns (1800-93) in his former church at Swaffhan Bulbeck yesterday. Jenyns was the original choice for the naturalist to accompany the second Beagle voyage but could not due to parish duties. Charles Darwin was his replacement.

"It is thanks to Tupaia’s skill as a linguist that European botanists were able to discover the Māori names and uses for many of the plants they were observing for the first time, according to Rose." @nichecanada.bsky.social
