Very sad to hear about the passing of Eileen Kowler, a true giant in the field of eye movements & their interaction with vision & cognitive processes. She helped me as a grad student & it was always wonderful to talk to her. Her body of work is foundational to our field. Thank you, Eileen.

Is perceptual novelty important in your research? We created, standardised, and validated a database of truly novel perceptual stimuli (matched to BOSS objects on size, contrast, luminance & colourfulness) so you don't have to! www.nature.com/articles/s41... #cogpsy #psychology #EEG #neuroskyence

When I took a job in the UK, I didn’t account for the govt hostility to foreigners. Rent a flat with my German husband co-listed = impossible until we pay 1000s for family visa. Rent alone & list his 🇩🇪 salary as income = impossible (non UK income). Renting alone = impossible (my salary too low). 🫠

I’m excited to share some big news- today is my first day as a Lecturer in Psychology at Queen Mary University London! Looking forward to starting my lab and doing awesome things here! 👀👀 (Also discovered that seeing a clear day through the window means that the drizzle is just invisible… ☔️).

The other day I was complaining to lawyer/consultant friends about academic salaries. Their response: “oh well, you only teach a few hours a week so you can just get a second job too right?” 😐😐
