Chief Meteorologist at WBZ-TV in Boston, MA. Storms, nature, sports, beer. Not necessarily in that order.

The next chance to hit the freezing mark in Boston is Monday, and it's not a lock That would be 9 straight subfreezing. In 2015 our longest was 15 straight. In 2018 we had 13 straight. Record is 16 (1961)

Anticipation building for the Pats and the snow! Biggest question remains how far north any mixing with sleet gets late Sunday. Most likely on the South Coast, but will have to watch trends over the next 24 hours. #wbz

Geomagnetic storm has arrived! On the aurora watch now when there are breaks in the clouds A G4 level storm can be visible even near city lights, but especially away from bright ambient light Skies will start clearing more in an hour or two

Short version of what we'll be keeping tabs on for the upcoming weekend. Arctic cold will be here no doubt. The question will be how much (any) snow? That won't be clear for a few more days. #wbz

Entering the winter gauntlet Coldest air of the season coming this weekend and with it another chance for snow MLK to Valentine's Day usually apex of winter around here. Definitely looks the case this year

Moooore snow Trends farther NW for tomorrow's snow. Scattered during the day but majority of accumulation evening/overnight Looks like a chance of an inch or two by end of the Pats game in Foxboro #SnowGame 🏈 ❄️ Forecast always available on WBZ and wbz.com

At the midway point of Climatological Winter Most of the west having their warmest on record Colder east...Boston is dead center in the middle of all winters on record (since 1872)

Lots of chatter about Sunday, but what about Saturday? Mostly minor stuff but a coating to an inch or two possible with higher end of that most likely in the higher terrain (borderline temps Saturday). #wbz

Update on how the Sunday system is looking Most ensemble members for both GFS and Euro are misses/a graze. Odds of 3"+ very low BUT...a few days out still. I do think there's a chance for *some* snow but unlikely anything big for now Also some minor snowfall (and rain) Saturday

BildBildBildBild

Sunday PM getting a little more attention for snow potential, though nearly all ensemble members are still a miss Still, worth keeping an eye on as things develop as we are 4 days out

⚠️Looks like another icy night tonight as the lower levels of the atmosphere saturate. Areas of freezing fog likely and pavement that may look OK at first glance but will be very slick into the morning hours. #wbz

2025 was the third-highest year... and none were due to hurricanes (no hurricanes hit the U.S. last year for the first time since 2015). **Five** events were caused by hail. Yikes.
