We’ve written to Dutch & Colombian ministers thanking them for convening the Santa Marta Conference on transitioning away from fossil fuels. We support the UNFCCC process, but warn fossil fuel interests still distort it. Santa Marta must ensure balance and safe space for communities.

As the global race for minerals hots up, standards for the mining and processing of these materials have been popping up everywhere. So what does a truly credible standard look like? And how can voluntary standards help fill gaps when regulation isn’t up to it? globalwitness.org/en/campaigns...

What do strong voluntary mining standards look like?

Voluntary standards can drive responsible mineral mining if mandatory regulation is limited or state enforcement is weak – so long as certain conditions are met

The ‘we need to rethink our approach to the North Sea’ is dumbest conversation in UK politics Expensive to extract- much of it now owned by small producers - that goes into global market Good to jobs in Aberdeen, not much else *mad* we’re not talking about energy security + renewables every day

If you haven’t already watched the new documentary from Louis Theroux on the manosphere, make sure you do well out of reach of anything you might throw at the television. Equal parts terrifying and pathetic. The hatred of women wrapped into a pyramid scheme, reducing young men to their base needs.

New from Picketty's lab: The world can raise incomes toward global equity & stabilize the climate under "under very strict conditions" —reduction of work hours —consumption shift toward immaterial sectors —major change in food habits —a fast energy transition requiring massive low-carbon investment

Absolutely delighted to hear about the High Court ruling removing Palestine Action as a terrorist group. It should never have gotten this far. Arresting peaceful protesters with placards should shame any modern democracy.

New investigation from Global Witness shows that, even as Russia masses troops on the Finnish borders and sends incursions into European airspace, the EU continues to import billions of dollars’ worth of nickel from a mine owned by Russia’s richest man. globalwitness.org/en/campaigns...

Sanctions gap lets Russian-mined nickel flow to Western markets

A European loophole keeps nickel from Russian mining giant Norilsk Nickel flowing to the US long after Washington banned imports of the Russian-origin metal
