If immigration detention capacity increases, it’s not just private security companies who will gain - right? I said this to lawyers who are familiar with the NGO world, and they were genuinely surprised.

Netpol@netpol.org · 5mo agoImagine the headlines if – in somewhere like Russia or China – a senior lawyer faced a secret trial and potentially imprisonment for expertly representing a client and, against the odds, aiding in their acquittal for serious criminal charges. This secret trial is happening at 10.30 today in London.
In this epoch of crisis, ability to feel, think and imagine is a critical tool we need to passionately harness, in order to survive. Yet people are voluntarily damaging and abandoning that ability by uncritically using generative AI. This is unspeakably irresponsible and depressing.

My organisation charges other NGOs with a large income to buy tickets to attend our events. The idea is that that allows us to cover the travel expenses for unfunded grassroots and people seeking asylum. It’s embarrassing to see lack of solidarity - few groups are prepared to do this.
